Beachamwell St Mary, Norfolk was destroyed by fire during conservation in 2022. Permission for full restoration has now been granted. I was fortunate to record this church in 2009 and it is in my Parish Churches app.

A week ago came across one of most extraordinary subaqua views have ever seen in UK, where the Old Carr Stream emerges (through a human construction, into a deep man made V shaped channel) from Beachamwell. Preternaturally clear water - clearest have ever seen. #MySwim #Chalkstreams #Norfolk 1/9

Today, feeling balmy and spring like around Beachamwell and Shingham, it was all Skylark song and mad Hares getting ready for March - in excess of 20 in some fields.

Today, I’ve been in Foulden, Gooderstone, Beachamwell, Narborough and Marham for day six of my summer listening tour, meeting with residents.

Throughout the tour so far, I have visited 28 villages across the constituency.

The beating sun was replaced by plenty of rain for a change!

Glad to read about a grant to repair Beachamwell. I took a picture of it last year when staying in a lovely B&B there after a family wedding and was sad to see it in a ruined state.

Yes, they add a lot of character to a building.
However, sadly, they can be susceptible to fire.
This is Beachamwell Church, Norfolk, which has had a new roof after a fire.

The Consistory Court of the diocese of Ely has granted a faculty permitting the restoration of St Mary the Virgin, which was destroyed by fire in February 2022, but the Chancellor rejects objections over lack of toilets in scheme. #ChurchNews

Here is an Alder rootscape, a sprig of fresh growth of Fool's Watercress (Helosciadium nodiflorum) the dominant macrophyte in Old Carr Stream, & up by the spring, a tuft of Frogspawn Algae (Batrachospermaceae).

The round tower, and particularly the belfry, on the Norfolk church that Truss used for her Easter PR shot are unusual. The ornate belfry is Norman, while the lower part of the tower is Saxon, predating the Conquest.

Bizarrely, the surface of much of this air-clear water was blanketed in a thick layer of moss (Calliergon??), also blanketing the stream bed in places. Never seen anything like it. Old Carr Stream, from its source in Beachamwell, as it flows towards the Wissey, is the gift that keeps giving. 2/9

Fun to walk along valley of Old Carr Stream, a #Norfolk #Chalkstream I've grown to love so much bsky.app/profile/nume.... Would be fascinating to know what it was like when it flowed along its natural winding course thro' Old Carr back when Beachamwell/Oxborough parish boundary was established. 4/4

So happy to see winter flocks of Lapwings again - enjoying an old potato field. The Fieldfares are here as well.
