Come with me on a bike commute from south St. Louis to SIUE! When my schedule permits, I do this ride a couple of times a week. Ordinarily it’s about 29 miles, but some circuitous routes (by choice) and detours (by force) have stretched it to 36 recently.

First chilly #BikeCommute of the season (35F/1.6C). It was still dark when I woke up. Takes forever to get all winter gear on. And my legs ache from this weekend's workout & long ride.

#bikeCommute: My wife decorates the house for Halloween, stringing orange fairy lights under the eaves. She sets the timer to turn them on when I leave the house at 3am. The orange glow is like a warm hug in the cold dark.

I wiped out on my bike coming home. Had to avoid a car that was making a right turn right in my way. My jacket sleeve got the worst of it. #bikecommute #Idaho

As for battery powered gear shifters, I have rim brakes; cables all visible on the outside of the frame; and mudguards. My gears ARE indexed but that's about as hi-tec as my bikes get. 😄

#bikecommute: Riding against an undeveloped hillside, I catch movement at the far edge of my headlamp. An owl is pacing me, floating & silent like a ghost until it settles on a small tree. It was only 2 or 3 seconds, but it was spooky magical.

I have subluxating patellas in both knees; born w/ floating kneecaps & crooked grooves.
I’ve dislocated my knees dozens & dozens of times.
But it’s never happened on my bike.
Monday my knee went out at the beginning of my morning #BikeCommute.
Huge thanks to the guy who stopped.
