Engineering and applied math actually do give a shit about employment outcomes, though. And applied math (taken broadly to include stats, operations research, and biomath/biostats) has some of the best outcomes in addition to assuming alt-ac to industry or government as the default.

To an extent. Biomath is very fascinating and I barely scratched the surface. While cells and organs “do” math, they are very messy systems! Cellular dynamics aren’t straightforward at all. 😩😩😩 Study teams are trying, though!
Oh yeah I totally see them believing it’s that simple. I mean ultimately the brain relies on physical processes so it probably is in principle possible to create a synthetic brain. Is what they’re doing anything close? Of course not.
