Make your voice heard!

The people of Dublin deserve a world class lido!
#BlueHealth 🌊
Let’s bring a public Lido to George’s Dock that’s affordable, inclusive and respectful of this iconic site’s heritage 🌊.

The Council is finally asking what the public wants — and this is our chance to be heard!

A swim with a view of the Eiffel Tower 😍

This is the level of ambition we need in Dublin. Swimming in Dublin's canals and the Liffey shouldn't be a risky activity, but something that's safe, comfortable, and easily accessible for all!

100 ans après son interdiction, la baignade est de nouveau possible.

his is what a healthier, greener, more sustainable and people-friendly Dublin could look like.

This is a liveable Dublin.

The Grand Canal Docks and Liffey could be so much more—spaces for people, nature, and sustainable transport.

This area has huge potential, but it's mostly wasted.

Time for change!

Our own Committee member @olaln.bsky.social brilliantly advocating for healthy, swimmable urban areas, and just access to clean bathing spots.

This should not be considered a luxury, but a public health measure all year round 🏊‍♀️

As climate change accelerates, extreme heatwaves are becoming the new normal.

Dublin and every Irish city need a heat action plan. Making our urban areas swimmable is no longer a luxury. It is a public health necessity.

I challenge the Irish government, local councils, and Waterways Ireland to clean up our waterways so that one day, healthcare workers across Ireland can prescribe a sauna and a dip, not pills.

Our ocean, our health.

Polluted seas and dying marine life don’t just hurt nature, they harm us.

We need strong, standalone legislation for Marine Protected Areas. No watered-down laws. No backtracking.

It is about time that we reclaimed Dublin waterways and made Dublin a swimmable city. Because a swimmable Dublin is a healthier, more liveable, climate resilient, and equitable Dublin.

My piece in the Journal!

No cool down capital: Dublin is a city by the sea, so why is it so hard to go for a swim?
As heatwaves become more frequent, access to safe, swimmable blue spaces in our cities is not a luxury, it should be a public health priority.

We said it this morning, but it’s worth repeating:
Protecting the ocean also means protecting each other. 🧠🌊
Mental health isn’t a bonus round. It’s core to conservation.
Let’s keep the #BlueMind & #BlueHealth convo going.

One of Ocean Hoptimism’s core values is this: protecting the ocean also means protecting each other. 🧠🌊
Mental health isn’t a side quest. So we’ve been diving into “Blue Health” and “Blue Mind” science to ask:
Is this real? Or just wet wellness woo? Let’s go.

🧖‍♀️ Saunas are fantastic for reconnecting with blue spaces, boosting outdoor time, and improving mental and physical health.

⛔️ The lack sea swimming in Dun Laoghaire makes this project a missed opportunity.
#BlueHealth 🌊
First impression: a fantastic idea! The 15-20 floating saunas in Oslo, where you can dive straight off the pontoon into the sea, are amazing.

But then it hits you—if you can’t swim in the sea at Dun Laoghaire, what’s the point of a floating sauna?

A waste opportunity!

💧 Last weekend’s #LiffeySwim should act as a reminder of what we are missing in Dublin.

While cities across Europe are reclaiming their #BlueSpaces for swimming, we continue to treat ours like an open sewer.

It’s time to imagine, no demand, a swimmable Dublin. 🌊

Happy Sunday ☀️

New Substack out on #BlueHealth and the role of urban #BlueSpaces.

Dublin’s waterways hold enormous potential to support health and wellbeing for all.

What’s missing? Political will, vision, and ambition.
Why I swim in Oslo, but not in Dublin
Since coming back to Oslo for Christmas, I’ve done something I would never dare do in Dublin: go for a swim in the city centre.

Poolbeg reimagined.

A lido, a tidal pool, and saunas.

A simple idea like this would make swimming and spending time in-and-around the sea infinitely more accessible for people living in Dublin.

Imagine cycling or getting the (future) LUAS from town to this place!
