@rote-liste-zentrum.bsky.social

Not 100% sure on this one as the boletaceae family is a vast group that include several smaller families - boletus, leccinum, and suillus. With over 1000 different sp. it's a lifelong of learning.
They all share a common characteristic - the presence of tube-like pores instead of gills. ID in alt ?

This big (maybe 20 cm across and flat like a plate) fungi seemed to be of interest to the people on my fungi FB group. Hard to ID but I'm told it's a Boletaceae.

NEW PAPER: Uncovering a new species of Hemileccinum (Boletaceae, Basidiomycota) from India with morphological characteristics and multi-gene molecular phylogeny by Das et al. The novelty of the species was assessed using morphology, phylogeny and the pairwise homoplasy index.

It has been a warm winter for #coastalcalifornia - but we have the first local “bolete” of the season!

Behold, a #fungifriend found growing under an oak tree after the first rains of the season.

What’s your vote - #suillaceae or #boletaceae?

Of course. But what's surprising to me is that this is a non-toxic, delicious *bolete*, same family (Boletaceae) as the world-famous "cep" or porcini mushroom

Most hallucinogenic mushrooms are not known for being delicious or full of umami 😹 I would 100% try these out

You weren’t far off, they’re both boletaceae family

Golden gilled bolete

It's edible, I've heard it can be pretty good. It looks like it has gills but those are just really really big weird shaped pores! That's why it's still in the family boletaceae and not a gilled mushroom genus. #fungifamily #mushroom #photography #fungus

In addition to the things you would normally photograph (an in situ shot, one showing the cap and one showing the pores & stipe) it is useful to photograph the base (some have pink or white mycelial strands visible) and a cut-in-half picture is often useful, e.g. www.researchgate.net/figure/Types...
