A U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officer, Luis Uribe, was found guilty on Thursday of sexually assaulting, robbing, and threatening four women with a gun at hotels in the Chicago area in 2022. Uribe robbed each of the women, who were all of Chinese descent, sexually assaulted two of them, and attempted to sexually assault the other two. At least two of the women said they were working as prostitutes at the time. During the trial, Uribe's lawyers acknowledged that he had visited prostitutes but argued that the accusations were false and that the women, who had sought Uribe's help with immigration matters, had set him up. Uribe testified that he never robbed anyone and claimed his relations with the women were consensual. Uribe, 45, is a former Marine who has worked for the federal government since 2009 and remains employed by CBP. He is scheduled to be sentenced on January 21, 2027, and faces a maximum sentence of life in prison and a minimum of seven years.
