The newly restored section of the Boyne Greenway, in Oldbridge. Repair works are now complete after a fire burnt away a section of the boardwalk in 2018 (only took 7 years!) #BoyneGreenway

Navan has huge potential to be a must-visit greenway hub destination. Now if only they get on with building that #NavanRail

How much do you know about the #BoyneGreenway? As it stands, the Boyne Greenway is largely associated with the existing trail in Drogheda. Yet that is only ‘Phase I’.

The question remains: whatever happened to the rest?

The #BoyneGreenway runs for 4km from Drogheda to the Battle of the Boyne visitor centre. That section was officially opened in 2014 - 313 years after the historic Battle of the Boyne. 12 years has passed, and not a single centimetre has been added to the greenway.

Annual New Years Day spin to Newgrange & the River Boyne, via Slane & Drogheda. Cold & foggy but still lovely & sunny too. Something mysterious about cycling around the bend of the Boyne north bank by Knowth & Dowth. If they ever build that full greenway here it’ll be something else #BoyneGreenway

A walk on the wild side. The north bank of the #RiverBoyne in Navan is more popular (its where the ramparts are - following the old canal towpath - and the location of the future #BoyneGreenway), but I’ve always preferred the quieter, more lush south bank.

“This project is of major regional and tourism significance for Meath and would provide a much-needed boost to our offering. Yet it seems like the #BoyneGreenway is stuck in permanent planning mode.”

“Other greenways have been delivered far more quickly, yet this continues to crawl forward.”

The 2025 greenway allocations have been announced. €1.4m in total for Meath County Council, the breakdown of which you can see below.

Great to see more improvements on the #BVLGreenway. As well as a further €400,000 to progress the #BoyneGreenway, Oldbridge-Navan section

Then there’s the added confusion with our other great greenway in the making – the #BoyneGreenway – located at Oldbridge, & in planning to continue to Navan.

We have heard of lots of visitors coming to explore our greenways confuse these two.

What do you think, do you find these names confusing?

"The #BoyneGreenway is envisaged to be a flagship scheme for tourism in the county with the potential to promote and enhance the local tourist economy, as well as providing a superior public leisure and recreation amenity for the County's residents."

We are very much looking forward to Public Consultation Number 3, outlining the preferred route preliminary design, which Meath County Council have previously stated will occur in December 2025. #BoyneGreenway

🚶‍♀️ Great news for Louth! Minister Dara Calleary has announced €16.5M for 63 outdoor projects under ORIS, including €500K for the Boyne Greenway to upgrade paths & lighting — boosting local recreation & tourism. 🌿

When you take into account that Public Consultation 2 was itself delayed for 2.5 years (originally planned for ‘Q3 2021’ according to the original plans, but not published until Dec 2023), that means the #BoyneGreenway has so far been delayed for 3.5 years since the first consultation in early 2021.
