update: according to BrandoSando the book was inspired by watching The Princess Bride with his family, which is the actual most Mormon thing in his books
people love to debate the extent to which BrandoSando’s Mormonism impacts his books but I would argue the single most Mormon thing is condensing a bunch of background characters into one called “Doug,” like unto how Mormon simplified diverse ethnicities into “Nephites” and “Lamanites”

I've seen both BrandoSando and Patrick Rothfuss labeled as romantasy. So take that marketing label with the world's largest grain of salt.

lol this is also very petty vindication on my end; everyone I've ever known to be loud about "brandosando" were hateful little Nice Guy nerds with a chip on their shoulder

Surprised BrandoSando hasn’t done this one yet

TIL Ken Jennings and BrandoSando were roommates in college

I hear we get to be irritated at Brandosando about something? Say the word and I'm there 🫡

I keep seeing the brandosando book yumi and the nightmare painter, so I thought I'd take it for a spin. Do I need to read the rest of the cosmere first?

The murderbot book was a solid 3⭐️ for me. Not bad, just not for me.

12) The nerd power fantasy & "my magic system must make sense!!!" crowd have edgelord isekai & brandosando as entrypoints. The "let's build our (optionally furry) mutual aid society with benevolent OP leaders" crowd have Critical Role & prosocial society building isekai (e.g. Rinmiru) as entrypoints

who told BrandoSando about fruit flies?

I think the most offensive thing about the "GRRM should have another author finish his series" is that they're all insisting it should be BrandoSando to do it, which is just rude to everyone involved.

Everyone is correct about how little the people making this slop think of men etc etc but also very funny to put Crime and punishment in there with Dune and BrandoSando

The only Author Brand I want to hear about is BrandoSando and even then not regularly.
I've had folks ask about "building an author brand" and tbh, don't. Just be yourself. Be a person. Post about your books, about other things you enjoy, about how you view the world, silly jokes.

Folks like to read the work of authors who just seem like cool people, not Professional Author Brands™.
Same. There are authors who post their pets, perspectives, hot takes, and general shitposts that give me a sense of what their writing might be like. I have bought their books. I also appreciate other users' recommendations.

I think if you write fantasy you have to allow for an element of inexplicable mystery or whimsy or just *weird*. Brandosando Magic is indistinguishable from technology and I don't find it as interesting.
July 15, 2026 at 1:03 PM
Ohh, yeah. High fantasy is extremely out of vogue unless it's BrandoSando.

Romantasy is saturating the market right now, with urban fantasy/dark academia trundling along behind. Most of it very human-centred, which kinda sucks.
