Education, Innovation, Youth, Sport, Arts and Culture minister Sanet Steenkamp in her budget motivation in the National Assembly this week hailed a boost in the government’s budget allocation for sport, youth and national service of N$1.26 billion. Steenkamp said the allocation marks a 46% increase from the previous year, reflecting the government’s deepened commitment to youth empowerment and sports development across Namibia. “This budget is a critical instrument in realising our vision of a dynamic youth population and a thriving national sports sector,” said Steenkamp. “It speaks to the importance we place on young people as the backbone of national development.” Of the total budget, 60% is dedicated to operational expenses. The lion’s share of this, which is 63%, will go to sport development, which includes investments in performance, talent nurturing and infrastructure.
