Map shows locations or approximate locations of Buffalo breweries, malt houses, distilleries, wineries, cider houses, and meaderies from 1828 to the present. Some breweries had on-site malt houses (i.e. Beck, Lang, Germania, etc.), so those were classified only under breweries to prevent duplication. KEY: Breweries - red marker Malt Houses - purple marker Distilleries - green marker Wineries - orange marker Cider houses - blue marker Currently operating - Beer mug, wheat, martini glass, wine glass or cider jug Sources used were Buffalo city directories, newspapers and maps from the collection of The Buffalo History Museum. Check out our reading list here: https://goo.gl/4JXCgH Some companies were omitted because we could not determine if they were producers or just distributors. Presently operating companies were determined from the NYS Economic Development Liquor Authority List of Active Licenses via Open Data NY: https://data.ny.gov/Economic-Development/Wineries-Breweries-and-Distilleries-Map/c2hv-vmqn Sharable link to map: https://tinyurl.com/TBHM-DrinkingMap Created by Amy Miller, Assistant Librarian at The Buffalo History Museum Research Library, June 2016 with the help of John P.
