Reddit's buyitforlife subreddit is legit.
this is why the reddit BuyItForLife community exists, and also, it’s really annoying that I now have to do a ton of involved research to avoid buying crap whenever I need new boots or an appliance.
The Vimes Boots Theory has been running up hard against "are these boots $200 because they're built right, or is that purely a brand positioning thing and they're made of the same 1mm-thick fake leather as the $50 ones"

Check r/buyitforlife, buying stuff that lasts instead of the cheapest thing you can find on Amazon/at Marshall's is best practices regardless of this really is the end of American economic hegemony.
To be clear, I am not an economist lol, but if you want to feel proactive, I would ask yourself, "what can I go buy right now that I might need that will last for multiple years?" Clothes, electronics, any foreign-made goods, etc. And also ask, "what debt can I pay off?"

I used to frequent a subreddit called r/buyitforlife, but the issue there is the same as the OG skeet mentioned: People would post about their inherited fridge from 1948 still running like a dream and recommend the manufacturer, but... they don't make 'em like they did in 1948, anymore.

Reddit r/buyitforlife is being driven insane by everything turning to shit, it's really hard to find things that aren't junk. I was despairing of finding driver sets that weren't junk (for laptops and phones and such) until a coworker turned me on to German stuff. Wiha is 10x the price, but it works
