I connected this post to this weeks reading from CDC and CERC. Former Cornell student who filed may experience psychological disorders like PTSD. People are becoming public activists now that the information is out.

The post predicts the GOP will shift blame to Belgium for food inflation, angering 35% of Americans. Per Benoit, perceptions matter more than reality. Anger follows who the audience thinks is responsible or who is more likely to blame. @ssfrigerio.bsky.social #COM385 #Crisis4
Likely the worst El Niño in 140 years. Harvests will be bad even without a fertilizer crisis. GOP will head to elections with scorching food inflation. And they will blame Belgium for not opening Hormuz. And 35% of Americans will be very angry at Belgium.

This post demonstrates a recent political crisis that sparked high emotional response. In this crisis, Trump attempted to Shift the Blame of poor press onto the news outlets, causing shock to all outlets and viewers. @ssfrigerio.bsky.social #COM385 #Crisis4

@ssfrigerio.bsky.social For the people within the Mexican market, this can put them in the activist model. They will need to figure out ways to work against this possible ban and find affective ways to make sure this has minimal negative affect on the citizens of Mexico. #crisis4 #COM385

This post shows how a major nor’easter can create fear, stress, and uncertainty for the people affected. The reading explains that different audiences can have different concerns, meaning crisis messages should be tailored to the people who are most affected. #Crisis4 #COM385

Matthews is targeting the empowered group in anger activist model because he is trying to increase outrage but believes the group to have high efficacy to get things done. He is provoking anger but also appealing to reason in hopes for things to happen.

An anti-smoking ad showing the health effects of smoking is a fear appeal. This connects to our readings because fear can motivate change when people feel they can avoid the threat.

An example of a fear appeal is antivaping ads that show the health risks of vaping. They use scary images and messages about what vaping can do to your body. This connects to the reading because fear makes people see something as more risky and motivates them to change their behavior. #com385 #crisis3

An example of fear appeal that immediately comes to mind are the anti-smoking campaigns we used to see frequently. These campaigns emphasized the relevance to viewers, and commonly caused avoidance due to their scary, empathetic nature. @ssfrigerio.bsky.social #COM385 #Crisis3

An example of fear appeal is the recent switch from drunk driving PSAs to buzzed driving is drunk driving. The message creates a sense of threat while also showing that the threat can be avoided. The ad gives an alternative at the end, like ordering a ride instead. #Crisis3 #COM385

This ad works because it pairs high threat (morgue image, dead-eyed face) with a simple, doable response: don’t text and drive. Witte’s EPPM, high threat + high efficacy triggers danger control, producing real message acceptance instead of fear-driven denial. @ssfrigerio.bsky.social #COM385#Crisis3

Fear appeals come from a negative emotion elicited by a perceived relevant threat. This is a fear appeal because it uses a superhero who is perceived as all powerful to suggest that even the strongest people can be struck down by AIDS to raise susceptibility.

An example of a fear appeal is insurance companies using everyday risks like car accidents or accidents involving fire to create a message to scare people. Witte talks about how companies do this in hopes people will do what the message recommends.

@ssfrigerio.bsky.social This is an example of a fear appeal because it uses a visual that tells us the serious health consequences of smoking and tries to persuade viewers to not smoke. #crisis3 #COM385

This flood-warning graphic is effective because it shows a phone receiving an emergency alert while emphasizing the danger of floods. The image is simple, recognizable, and connects the warning to an action people can take. #Crisis2 #COM385

This warning is effective with its bold text and bright red "DANGER" at the top. It immediately grabs your attention and signals that there is something hazardous. However, it does not explain next steps or what to do when in contact with what's dangerous. #crisis2 #COM385

Food labels successfully illustrate warnings, especially with the allergen information on the bottom. The threat is clear and stands out, and allow for people to make a significant judgment fast and effectively on what is best for them.

I picked this FDA label because it swaps vague text for graphic images tied to a specific disease. Old warnings were ‘invisible’ using plain text. A graphic illustration makes the risk concrete, personal, and hard to ignore or rationalize away. @ssfrigerio.bsky.social #Crisis2 #COM385

These warning labels on cigarette packs are said to twice as effective as just word labels, as the pictures cause people to have to look at the damage they are causing to themselves every time they grab a cigarette and see the consequences that could occur.

I believe that this graphic effectively communicates a warning. In the graphic it tells you to be cautious of icy roads and gives you pointers on how to avoid getting in an accident and what to do if you did get in one. #crisis2 #COM385 @ssfrigerio.bsky.social

This graphic is effective because the message is short, clear, and visually grabs attention. It makes the danger of drunk driving easy to understand. A possible problem is that the warning may feel too scary or too emotional. #Crisis2 #COM385

I think it is effective because the bright colors catch your eye, and it is a simple design that is easy to understand. I don’t think there is anything problematic because the sign is there for the peoples best interest.

I would chose public relations out of the four different types of risk communication. People aren’t really paying attention to the hazard quite yet - so I could get creative and find ways to get people to actually care about an issue and understand why it is important. #COM385 #crisis1

@ssfrigerio.bsky.social I would choose outrage management because the hazard is low, but the audience's outrage is high. I would need to figure out why people are perceiving the situation as very dangerous when the actual hazard is low. Credible communication is key here.
