This week, Ontario agreed to an extension to the Canada-Wide Early Learning and Child Care (CWELCC), but major gaps remain that the province should step up and address.

For some parents, there’s only one issue that matters this election: the future of the Canada-wide Early Learning and Child Care (CWELCC) plan, a policy that reduces daycare fees in some provinces to as little as $10 a day. @chantalbraganza.bsky.social explores: thewalrus.ca/child-care-elect...

Justin Trudeau did two things that directly improved my family’s lives

1) The CWELCC plan (which is the basis of my PhD as well)

2) The increase in tri-council funding for graduate students

Those in the private Canadian child care sector cannot continue to argue for higher-income parents to pay more money when they are simultaneously accepting public money from CWELCC.

Where do we "find" the money? Shift it back to expansion of non-profit centres.

Kids & Company, a private for-profit multi-national corporation, receives CWELCC funding.

They also allow corporations to pay to reserve spaces for employees through "corporate memberships"

This has the potential to shut lower-income families out of publicly subsidized care.

The report outlines positive steps on ELCC affordability, access (expansion of supply), workforce issues, and public funding.Nevertheless, important issues that still need to be addressed are evident in all areas.

Notably, when asked if he would maintain CWELCC during a two-day tour of Newfoundland & Labrador, Poilievre diverted, only saying he would give provincial governments & parents the flexibility to “find child care that works for them, at an affordable price.”

Have you searched for a day care space?

When the goal is access to quality early learning for all, the evidence clearly shows that a "family allowance" fails as a public policy alternative to Canada's $10/day child care program (CWELCC). Report by: The Prosperity Project canadianprosperityproject.ca/wp-content/u...

Do you think PP will cancel the CWELCC (daycare) program? I think doing so would be wildly unpopular but then I’ve seen many cons saying the usual “don’t have kids you can’t afford” … as if not having an extra $2100 a month is a moral failing & only rich people deserve to have families.

CWELCC (Canada Wide Early Learning and Childcare) agreements are the model.
However it takes a federal government willing to place conditions on transfers and monitor/enforce those conditions.
