How interesting. Samsung dropped a paper a few days ago with little fanfare:
KV-cache offload over a CXL memory pool.
Really scrappy setup too. Early-gen CXL stack (2.0), old switches, yet simple interleaving of the KV Cache across CXL modules kept the GPUs as well fed as real DRAM!

I just can’t get over how neat CXL type 3 is.
Imagine having a 1TB bucket of memory.
But! Instead of 1TB of DDR5, you have a tiered CXL accelerator. To the OS, it *looks* like regular memory.
Maybe your accelerator is actually 100GB of DDR5, and ~1TB of high bandwidth flash.

Anyway, it’s a fun trick used everywhere that few realize. Towards the future, I wouldn’t be surprised if inline, accelerated LZ4 starts showing up in the majority of CXL controllers.

Le plus beau, c'est de lire les commentaires du genre "Et ils sont où les écolos ?" À part l'envie urgente de répondre "Dans ton cxl", je réponds surtout "Il fallait nous écouter avant". Nous étions éco-anxieux, soyons éco-furieux.
