#Capitalism
The key relationship here is distinct-but-perhaps-related.

As you know, I share your burr about religion/SFF, and I hope my quoting the SFE on the Bible as shared-world made clear my Do Not Like.

*That said*, what is this urge for stories held in common? "It's all capitalism" is a fun bit, but...

I have this fun game I play while watching Unwrapped with @ohdeerling.bsky.social during dinner.

The game is googling the various companies featured on the show to see if capitalism has ground them into dust or not.

Insurance companies "Discipline" healthcare spending?

No, they don't "discipline" spending, they gatekeep healthcare itself. And they don't do it to save someone else's life - they do it to boost share prices and justify bloated 8 figure C-Suite salaries and bonuses.

We can't afford capitalism.

Yes, the United States almost single-handedly took down Tojo's monstrously evil regime, replacing it with a peaceful and prosperous democracy -- one which has both done a lot of good in the world, and manufactured lots of goods for the world to buy (as indeed capitalism always has).

Yay Capitalism!

The problem with capitalism is the "Free shit" goes to the wealthy.

The "Free shit" is in reality the value extracted from whatever the commodity in question is and it is extracted by the Labour and endever of the workers who are exploited by the capitalist bosses.

And because capitalism, patriarchy & supremacy taught people that wealth was equal to success, that it was deserved born of hard work & good decisions as opposed to nepotism and corrupt alliances since the establishment of this nation

I'm enamored by "playing capitalism".

Its just supplying the product that the consumer wants at the highest quality without fucking them over constantly, this is alien to an Epic Games developer
Really disheartening as a socialist to know that no matter how hard I try, I'll never hate capitalism as much as a capitalist when they're forced to engage in capitalism.

Yeah capitalism (and corresponding technological development) is absolutely required. I hesitate to say that “x, y, and z will produce fascism for sure” but rather “x, y, and z are required for fascism to develop”, and eugenics i think would absolutely be one of those

Stop watching movies made by people who don't know what they are talking about & comparing it to reality
Ai isn't like this because it's secretly alive & evil
It's like this because capitalism & businessmen are lying to you & undercutting everyone AGAIN

I’ve read it this year along with a few - in my personal organization - books that deal with being “violently online”: (Rejection by Tony Tulathimutte, Amygdalatropolis by BR Yeager, An Unoffical Fan Treatise by Wren James and An Illustrated Guide to Capitalism by Ddk*)

Not necessarily, but it works in the USA, because the "policy" Phil Knight brought to Oregon is a gerneral mandate for Capitalism here. He did, in the year 2000.
His idea was to prevent the UO bookstore from refusing to sell clothing made in sweatshops.
The policy forbids everything but profit.

(yes I know we all have moral value and capitalism doesn't change that but I like being able to buy food and have agency over my own labor conditions and etc)
