Phone call, Mum has fallen, now waiting for an ambulance #carerLife

This is really difficult. Mum is in one hospital, Dad in another. Dad “doesn’t know why he is there” Mum is struggling with the food due to a pre-existing condition. None of this would be too much of an issue except we are at home in the early throes of Covid. #carerLife

Serving the breakfast tray in bed each morning, I sometimes feel as though I should be wearing a frilly white apron and followed by a charismatic fox terrier.

… the long, complicated list of conditions that we have and that have assorted interlinking
- that there’s such a thing as a set of symptoms that will be successfully and fully treated, without need for (say) ongoing meds to keep them that way

No visit today, instead preparing bungalow, emptying car of wheelchairs to make room for frame and shopping (just Sainsbury’s, Morrisons, Asda and Lidl) to top up all of the things which have gone out of date in the last month #carerLife

Mum’s hospital is trying really hard with her food, she has graduated from the Sara Stedy today. Dad still wants to be at home but seems to be more focused on Mum. Apparently we are able to go in on Saturday. #carerLife

With Mum & Dad (hopefully) coming out of hospital soon, both with zimmer frames I am preparing myself for a period of slightly more hands on caring. Luckily we live close and are moving slightly closer in a few weeks. What do you know now that you wish you had known in the beginning? 1/2 #carerLife

Today’s #carerLife drama - Dad blacked out when being assessed by the physio and so there was a full on Casualty moment with alarms & everything. He’s fine now

Oof. Pushing a wheelchair down the steep slopes in Sheffield, over slippery pavements covered in snow and ice is ... quite scary. I got to test the brakes quite a lot.

Such a stunning shortlist. One of the important things about #Curae. I’m stumbling towards description here. Be lenient with me? When you’re in this role, there aren’t often resources which are gauged for creatives or would-be creatives who both depend on endeavour and could go professional with it
Thread. It is a great honour to announce the shortlist for the 2025 #Curae prize for unpaid carers

#carerLife bingo “I wouldn’t have thought that you would have been into Queen” - Mum’s ring tone is We Will Rock You. She was 28 in 1977 when it was released. I told her to ask if they thought she would be into Vera Lynn HT RIP John Popham

Definitely been there. I put in “acute myeloid leukaemia” (I’m a survivor and need a blood test for my annual haematology review) and it offered only one choice, “cough”, which I do not have but had to chose in order to proceed.

And I’m super easy compared to husband. #CarerLife
