Trifunctional zirconium catalysis-enabled triple modular synthesis
Nature Catalysis, Published online: 02 November 2026; doi:10.1038/s41929-026-01628-2Zirconium catalysis has remained largely confined to Lewis acid and redox chemistry, with only isolated examples of photocatalytic C–H activation. Now trifunctional zirconium catalysis enables modular benzylamine synthesis from alkanes, aldehydes and nitriles by integrating photochemical, redox and Lewis acid reactivity.

Today in Med Chem Lab Chat:

“Who needs catalysis when you can go stoichiometric?

[it wasnt stoichiometric but more like “so much catalyst that my process friends won’t talk to me for a week” ]

[Oh yeah it totally worked too]

New paper🚨 We found PNGaseA from an infant-associated B.bifidum has a preference for N-glycans attached to peptides.
Especially happy to see this out after slogging through final experiments during the summer heatwaves 🥵 Thanks to the lovely team! @lucyicm.bsky.social www.nature.com/articles/s41...
Structural basis for N-glycopeptide preference in an infant-derived Bifidobacterium bifidum PNGaseA - Nature Communications
Here, the authors show that a Bifidobacterium PNGaseA uses a β-sheet cradle to recognize N-glycopeptides, linking sequon recognition, cradle closure and catalysis during infant-gut glycan acquisition.
