THIS IS HUGE! For the FIRST time ever, researchers at the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST) have successfully discovered a molecular switch that can actually REVERT cancer cells BACK TO NORMAL by capturing the critical transition state before full cancer development. 🧪🧵⬇️

the ROOT causes of cancer development. Their research hinges on the idea that cancer cells, during their transformation from normal cells, regress along the differentiation trajectory- the process by which normal cells mature into specific functional types. To tackle this, researchers created a

This is how we create CAR-T cells, harnessed by the body's own immune system to kill #cancer cells in leukemia/lymphoma patients.

T cells are harvested from the patient, activated then injected back to go on a killing spree.

Thank #NIH funding for this development.

They explicitly didnt refer to the chromosomes that determine biological sex through development but the state embryos are in at conception... which is universally female.

Also it's wild that they call the egg and sperm cells the 'large' and 'small' reproductive cells.

And yes, before anyone asks, this system can break down. While T cells and B cells are eliminated during development if they make a receptor that recognizes self, some escape, and anergy toward self can be broken leading to autoimmune diseases.

US scientists have created the first comprehensive atlas of brain development, charting how stem cells turn into neurons and other brain cells during early life. Researchers mapped the precise genetic switches that guide each stage of cortical growth. buff.ly/5Abbj5T #ShareGoodNewsToo

This is a very promising scientific development in diabetes research that could save thousands of lives but more importantly save health care millions, if not billions of dollars in the future. This is another reason I support animal research and testing something I know is not popular.

In school, you probably learned that human cells have 46 chromosomes, which is 2 copies of 23 chromosomes, sometimes called 'diploid' or '2n'.

But there are other 'ploidies' in your cells.

To start with, 80+% of your cells have NO chromosomes: red blood cells or 'erythrocytes'...

During development, the cells that will give rise to future "small" and "large" reproductive cells can settle in a way that ultimately, the precursors for both will be made.

Some people develop in a way that leads to no production of reproductive cells of any kind, small or large. 3/x

Epithelial cells are the 'brick' cells that make up barrier layers in tissues like your skin.

They can transition into mobile 'mesenchymal' cells that can migrate all over your body.

This makes possible embryonic development, wound healing & metastatic cancer.

It's like a cellular flash mob. 🧵⬇️
1/14 “Epithelial” & “Mesenchymal” aren’t binary categories—they form a spectrum, or better yet, a multidimensional space. This becomes especially clear in collective cell migration, which often depends on a finely tuned degree of “mesenchymal-ness”.
