While digging through old glaze tests looking for formulas worth revisiting, I thought I might share with you some of the most fun, weird, or spectacular results from my very first batch formulated around last Christmas.

Un émail qui fait un bleu surprenant. Le bleu n'est que dans de micros bulles. Le reste est entre le marron et le vert. Recette a base de cendre lavée et argile locale. Cône 10 réduction grès Saint-Amand

Also all of the glazes are mine that I've named after Mountain Goats songs. Top is Oceanographer's Choice and the bottom is Tucson Fog. #ceramicglaze #themountaingoats

My first attempt at a lidless reusable takeaway coffee cup. Too wide! Doesn't fit in my car cup holders, feels awkward to hold. Mouth opening is fine for drinking though so there's that!
Do love the way the tenmoku breaks and changes over the clay body too

Sorry I've been so quiet here bsky friends 💖 I got the Amaco ceramic printing Inks in blue, red and yellow and mixed them and did these little testers. They've just come out of the bisc and then I'm going to clear glaze half of each tile and fire to cone 6.

Mōrena bsky 💖 ☕ Today's yunomi is a cute little cherry blossom inspired guy I made the other week to use my new glaze with. Love the way the overglaze combos with my pink one! #ceramics #pottery #handmade #ceramicglaze

This is a really interesting bit of new science, especially coming from a #ceramicglaze perspective. Maybe this is why historically we could 'get away with' using lead-glazed ware? www.sciencedaily.com/releases/202...
Brewing tea removes lead from water
Researchers demonstrated that brewing tea naturally adsorbs heavy metals like lead and cadmium, effectively filtering dangerous contaminants out of drinks. Researchers tested different types of tea, t...

I can't stop staring at this #ceramicglaze test. I made a new layering glaze, Riches and Wonders and this is it over my pink glaze.

Mōrena bsky 💖 ☕ Today's mug is one of my absolute favs... but I have no idea who made it 😱 I got it from the Northern Clay Center in Minneapolis when I lived around the corner from it, way back before I started ceramics myself. Love the subtle glaze. #ceramics #pottery #handmade #ceramicglaze

Mōrena bsky 💖 ☕ Today's mug is from a soda firing a few years ago and it had my fav soda glaze that I call Pistachio Ice Cream. It does some crazy cool stuff! #ceramics #pottery #handmade #ceramicglaze

Mōrena bsky 💖 ☕ Today's mug is from local potter Riki Julin. It has sand from our local beach in the glaze to get the speckle effect!

Mōrena bsky 💖 ☕ Today's mug is a bit of an experiment from a few years ago when I was starting on my stain-use journey. This one I had to refire a few times to get the glaze to melt the way I wanted but then blisters formed.

Mōrena bsky 💖 ☕ Today's cup is by good friend Janeen Page. She is known for using 100% locally sourced and/or foraged rocks and minerals for her clay and glazes. This cup she fired in the soda/wood firing we did together last July.

Mōrena bsky 💖 ☕ Today's mug is by the very talented Kate Fitzharris. This is from a soda firing we did together a few years ago. She used a tenmoku glaze that went this gorgeous plum color!

Mōrena bsky 💖 ☕ Today's mug is by Lily Swanson, a Whakatū | Nelson potter that I also met at Driving Creek. I love the way the speckled clay changes the tenmoku glaze!

Afternoon bsky, I slept late today 😅☕ This cup is by the lovely Rona Ngahuia Osborne who I had the great pleasure of meeting and doing a residency with last July at Driving Creek. This cup is from our soda/wood firing and I LOVE the shino on this.

Getting the bsky #ceramicglaze ball rolling with a glaze material post! These are some oyster shells I collected along the coast of the Coromandel last July. I put them through a bisc firing and am going to be doing some line blends with them, using them in place of calcite/whiting.

I made a new Feed specifically for #ceramicglaze posts! There's uh... nothing in it yet, but hopefully some more #ceramics and #pottery people will come along and start posting about their cool glazes!

Meet my Sky Islands clear glaze! The recipe consists of 90% locally scavenged calcium carb, quartz, and feldspar (1st photo). 2nd photo shows earlier attempts at making a clear desert mineral/rock glaze.

Using a digital microscope to explore the landscapes within the glaze drips on one fresh new cup. I spent hours filled with awe and curiosity while wandering around entire places invisible to the naked eye.

The Caliche Aventurine glaze flowed off a few cups while in the kiln. I know I should sand those drips off, but what if I give whomever buys it the option to sand or not to sand? I love how the cup is a bit imbalanced but won't tip over.

A perpetual caliche aventurine glaze, inspired by perpetual stews that can continue cooking for decades with fresh ingredients added. Glaze batch 2 was added to batch 1, using a different caliche for a slight variation in appearance.

I'm in the glazing phase of my ceramics cycle. Some of the glazes are mixed in small batches, particularly those used for glazing little sculpted bits, or one that requires calcium from my backyard.
