I love tiny vases, and testing new glazes is always a perfect excuse to make a few.

Sometimes, out of impatience, I try something I know is bound to fail. Like this badly applied glaze on a badly finished piece.

And sometimes, somehow, it kinda works.

These small cups have served for more tests than I can count. This one is one of the few I was genuinely happy with.

When the glaze isn't perfect, but the imperfections don't look like mistakes...

Sometimes, trial pieces work out better than expected. This one was a test for a newly formulated glaze, applied with a brush, which is something I don't usually do. And it worked out quite nicely.

While digging through old glaze tests looking for formulas worth revisiting, I thought I might share with you some of the most fun, weird, or spectacular results from my very first batch formulated around last Christmas.

My first time using Flux. Probably not enough height to really make it pop but I'm still feeling quite chuffed with how it turned out. Plus Peppered Plum by #maycocolors is so pretty!

I didn’t know that I would get really into testing glazes, but here I am mixing art and science! I love the fact you don’t know what will happen until a test told or a piece comes out of the kiln. Also, glaze mixing can be very messy!

Long time no post, I have a few glaze projects spinning but here’s some winners from the last phase of testing for the blue/purple iridescent crystalline glazes. Pushing further into the purple range and even into some peachy pink/coppery tones

Highlights from the latest round of testing. Always worth it to do another remapping of a series.

Lots of cool but generic Moly crystal results out of this survey, but I’m chasing these purples and blues 💜💙

I thought this one deserved its own post :)

I’m still picking apart this glaze and testing a few more variables, but I couldn’t resist getting it onto a form as-is.

Testing out a purple and a pink 👀 Purple needs a little work, but looking forward to using the pink!

day 7, I think, of #20 pots
this is a little mug I took out of the kiln yesterday, I am getting close with the teal glaze, just need a bit more blue in it. I actually have 3 teal glazes like this, but all 3 react differently when layered with another glaze.

Trying out a new crystal glaze on a small test piece. I’ll try it on a larger pot in my next firing.

Test tiles

I make this shape on purpose. Quick on the wheel. Usually have a solid bottom (enclosed form) for glaze details. Coat count on the side. Shape allows multiple permutations of coats/combos. Also they make me giggle

Finally getting to try out Mayco Tiger's eye glaze on these bowls! Painted the first layer on with the baby monitor on in the background lol. Who else has used the Tiger's Eye glaze? #ceramics #pottery #mayco #glazetesting #clay
