#CivPro
Not to be mean, but somebody needs to read up Rule 4(i) and how to serve the United States. Ah well, "hashtag civpro."

My most vivid memory of 1L is my CivPro prof shouting “the ghost of swift v tyson rides again!” every time he caught a post-Erie case backsliding

reading along with this has been the best civpro class i have ever had

Two weeks ago, my CivPro class went to Federal Court, and we were blown away by how bad one of the attorneys was that day...now I'm starting to think we may have been too quick to form that opinion. Maybe being unprepared in court is normal, and we 1Ls just don't know it yet...

....ct civpro knowers is that....true? I was under the impression that this was the opposite of the case.

She can't read. How did she pass civpro?

coincidentally, I've heard some wild stories about him getting day 1 level CivPro and CrimPro wrong, so it'd make sense.

My CivPro students challenged me today to draw the US states freehand from memory while they did a practice essay ahead of their midterm.

The results were... mixed, but overall I'm still pretty impressed!

Well, now I have to change my thinking about CivPro classes.

Preliminary statement is good - starts with "yeah, judge, there's this and there's the Rule 11 because this guy is fifty pounds of batshit in a five-pound, spring-loaded can."

And - fun procedural note here for civpro geeks: Fed R Civ P 11(c)(2) specifies that a R11 motion MUST be filed separately.

But, it's good to know that there are enough lawyers on Bluesky that all I have to do to get a CivPro question answered is post the wrong procedure.

mood check on my classes this semester now that we're 3 weeks in

evidence: it's twisty and detail focused but in a fun way similar to civpro. i worry about not getting the foundations down early tho.
constitutional law: makes me the most cynical about my existence as an inevitable political entity.

Oh no I've started previewing civpro topics for my non-lawyer husband, and now he wants to know if everything around us is substantive or procedural

Listen, I know this person is annoying, but I didn’t realize you were at the “I am gonna make you learn CivPro” level of ire.

"it doesn't know contracts! or torts! or civpro! and it absolutely will not stop, ever! until you have signed!"

My CivPro teacher used this in class numerous times first year. It was the class I did the best in mostly because it was relatable. And I get grits.

I’ll take “quotes I immediately recognize and can identify by case/source, even though I don’t use anything due process-y in my practice, because I was on call for Mullane in CivPro in 2015”
"At bottom, when 'notice is a person’s due, process which is a mere gesture is not due process. The means employed must be such as one desirous of actually informing the absentee might reasonably adopt to accomplish it.'”

A more interesting start to civpro than Capron v Van Norden

Congratulations! And joining the chorus emphasizing "lazy" is the wrong word.

I didn't even know CivPro was about lawsuits until halfway through the 2nd semester. Tomorrow I'm arguing a Rule 12 Motion to Dismiss a frivolous complaint. It definitely gets easier with time and experience. Stay strong!
