Stede, you’re stuck in my head as it is. Fuckin’...going around and around. Already driving me fuckin’ crazy, man.” Stede’s heart stutters, coughs out a great plume of smoke, and goes up in fucking flames. Gasoline flames, fierce and chemical; slipping through the space between his ribs, corroding his bones, razing his lungs. It’s a visible struggle for Ed to keep speaking. He does it, though. He does it for Stede. “If this goes any further,” he rasps, spindly and frail, “you’re gonna get even more stuck, mate. Might end up that I won’t be able to get you out. And maybe you…won’t wanna be in there. Maybe you’ll just. Want me to let you go.” Stede’s been stuck so many places before. He’s been stuck with so many people. He’s never once been stuck somewhere he wants to be.
