#Clearsighted
You're the most morally clearsighted person on my feed today
September 29, 2026 at 5:35 PM
This is incredibly clearsighted, in a way that is rare in economic commentary. Contrary to partisan rhetoric, economic discontent is not linked to any one administration.

Roughly speaking, folks are upset that two generations ago one job could afford a home and a family. And now it can’t.
It's a fatal conceit to think we can tell a moral and ethical story to bring Americans together today without addressing the economic reality that has failed them too often over the past 50 years.

That's the story I tell in The Wage Standard: and what we can do to change it.

Look, I can do "in order to stop repeating your maladaptive patterns from childhood , you're going to have to engage in clearsighted introspection to identify them and catch yourself at it, then consciously *do differently.* Also probably ease up on the self-hatred" in a bluesky post.

Yes, very good.
Anand Menon being clearsighted and sensible as usual.

Got you. Well, I don't know. The myths in themselves are as much folk myths that helped the general public process the change. One hopes the ones at the top are more clearsighted and detached about Britain's role in the world. Although social media seems to show that isn't the case in many cases.

Thank you, Eric, for your clearsighted and context-rich reporting, as always. Much appreciation.

I feel like this is actually the most clearsighted order of problems. Atleast to me

Comparing this to the tepid dystopias we're offered, like that Civil War movie, is instructive. If anyone now was writing about the future with the clearsighted vision Ballard had, we would most likely consider them insane.

…with a more correct and clearsighted viewpoint. They might say stupid, ignorance-revealing shit to you because they’ve barely thought about the issue while you know all the facts and arguments. But they’ll be right anyway

If the Kremlin had been clearsighted, they would never have invaded Ukraine in 2022, let alone still be chasing that sunk cost—but they trusted Valdai-advised Washington’s assessment that Ukraine couldn’t/wouldn’t resist, as DC trusted Moscow’s in an absolute circle-jerk intel fail.

There’s one subreddit that is clearsighted about this case. But everyone else is in the white woman true crime sphere which is rooting for a pretty white killer while never giving the first bit of thought to a woman like Latarsha Sandwrs.

See Australia. This clearsighted truthteller rightfully calls the techbros “fascists”.
However, @news.abc.net.au would probably even baulk at calling them “controversial” (ABC’s usual euphemism for fascist).

Fossil fuel emissions need to STOP.

Instead, C02 pollution went up roughly 0.9% to 1% to a record high of around 38.1 to 38.9 billion tonnes in the past year.

We are fostering a delusion of agency, from which we will be sorely disabused. We need clearsighted leaders, not liars and minimisers.

I mean, you're demonstrating it already, you're not even starving and irradiated and you can't follow 280 chars along. I was right all along, only LLM will parse and they're just statistical whatevers. So no mind, no intelligence, will grasp the greatness of how clearsighted I am. So I glaze myself.

I hope people can draw a distinction between the entire population of the US and the deeply corrupt administration you're presently saddled with. The noise and level of protests against them make it obvious there are very many rational and clearsighted opponents working hard to clear up the mess.

It does all depend what you mean by "productive forces".

We now have a perfectly clearsighted view of civilisational annihilation if we don't shrink all of those forces that rely on atmospheric pollution to drive themselves forward.

So that will be a choice we are absolutely making.
Counterpoint: AI is not a productive force because it is explicitly designed to be operated, maintained and conserved *without* living human labour

To be secure in your emotions is to be secure in that Flux, which is difficult when you want to feel clearsighted over your work.

Me, clearsighted, watching the film normally
You, squinting through a "critical lens"
Me, a well adjusted switch, enjoying the film's text
You, scrounding around, begging for some sub-text.

France, being France, Barnier will likely be rejected. Experienced and knowledgeable pro-EU visionary, he is clearsighted enough to see France's huge financial and nationalism dilemma. France is a serious EU stability risk. Barnier could perhaps offer stability. Will the parliament?
UK could keep special pre-Brexit terms if it rejoined EU, Michel Barnier says
Exclusive: Former chief Brexit negotiator says staying out of euro and Schengen area would be ‘perfectly possible’

“You can’t vote out the mafia, but you can help protect people from them.”

Sarah Kendzior, clearsighted as always.

Food for thought with elections on the horizon in New Zealand. When the mafia remain, what are the mechanisms for community?

Well, my answers to your questions, anyway. On Epstein, The X-Files, voting rights, more!

I'm also really touched by the fact that he has Old J evaluate the horrors of prostitution by considering the future of his beloved Holly. He's very clearsighted at understanding that, in the society that he inhabits, Holly has very few protections from that fate.

A fairly short and very clearsighted analysis of the current dilemma in UK politics. (Very well written, too.) well worth reading.

Part of me is wondering whether I will look back at this the same way I look back at @55id.bsky.social ‘s presentation on SSO in Washington in 2019 at the height of the SSI boom - a clearsighted understanding of the challenges and ways to solve them.

Freedom in a Rocking Boat is a wise and very prescient book (1972!).. sometimes older books are more clearsighted than new ones, and this is one of them
