Nicknames for crops can be highly complimentary. Cotton, for example, has basked in its “White Gold” reputation since the 19th century, while wheat rules across many regions as the “King of Cereals.”

A tree expert was discussing this on the radio saying we will need trees, which will be resilient to climate change. I was thinking palms and acacia, he was talking oaks and rowans. However, this is very welcome news.

It's also a more efficient use of resource, more equitable, safer, makes our built environments & communities more resilient against effects of climate change that are already baked in, & paves the way for further active & public transport infrastructure rather than introducing yet more impedimenta.
The fallacy of the climate movement's electric car advocacy is belief it's faster to get people into EVs than into walkable homes where they can drive less.

The reality is it's probably ten times faster to build homes in walkable neighborhoods than to convince people to buy electric cars.
The very slow speed of federal grant funding:
—Nov 21: Congress enacts IIJA; includes $5 b for EV chargers
—States take 2 years to plan
—Oct 23: Oregon completes 1st step of solicitation process
—Dec 24: Station finalists selected
—Aug 25: Money obligated
—Late 26: Maybe first chargers will open?

Climate shocks could disrupt services that millions of vulnerable people rely on, but care is largely absent from adaptation plans and national funding estimates. Investing in climate-resilient care can prevent ongoing health and economic crises while creating jobs and reducing pressure on public budgets. WASHINGTON, DC—It is increasingly difficult to justify the slow pace of adaptation to climate change. Last year was one of the hottest on record, with economies and communities around the world disrupted by extreme heat, heavy rains, and tropical cyclones.
