Hi, Uhhhh yeah I'm stumped

Does anyone know how I can do 3D deph sorting with all 3 dimensions(or just y and z) with ONLY 2D sprites?! I've been trying to figure it out for like months and I've been ending up extrmemely close but with a major flaw with it. Can you guys help me with this?

I've been stewing on this too - last fall I left too much room for AI reliance. New plan includes occasional in-class quizzes and final at the start of class w/o internet (package ?doc is ok) and honor system no AI during the semester except codehelp.app.

I use a tool as a "virtual TA" that uses the ChatGPT engine but is constrained not to just give a code dump to students. It's patience far exceeds mine, but I'm waiting for the day that it snaps.
I’ve been seeing pretty good results from CodeHelp with the 4o model, so if GPT-5 produces substantially better results, that’d be impressive. As always, the quality of the answer depends on the quality of the question (I can practically hear CodeHelp sigh whenever it gets the question “Is this correct?” but it never replies, “I don’t know. Do your tests pass?”)
