I think it's clear at this point that someone *could* get a bot to do online cognitive tasks without being detected. My question is: *would* anyone do this? Are cogpsych experiments (vs. surveys) really an appealing target for bad actors?
I just had Opus 5.5 one shot a Human-Like mousetracking driver by looking at my code on cognition. Right now it's choosing left or right randomly. It's still not perfect but this took it literally a simple prompt and 1.5 mins to code a script. It can then be randomized and used across bot accounts.

Fantastic paper!
Of interest to cognitive psychologists interested in the dimensionality of mental representations 🤩

Statistical critique of the p-curve (in JASA)

Paper drop, for anyone interested in #metascience, #statistics, or #metaanalysis! @clintin.bsky.social and I show in a new paper in JASA that the P-curve, a popular forensic meta-analysis method, has deeply undesirable statistical properties. www.tandfonline.com/doi/full/10.... 1/?

How do adults understand children’s early, highly variable speech? Our new paper in Nature Human Behavior (www.nature.com/articles/s41...) provides evidence that adults’ interpretations depend quite strongly on language expectations—what they think children are likely to say. 1/

This is the key point for me. Throw in the abundance of the much more repetitive survey and AI training tasks, and the cogpsych experiments look like a really low value target.

Do the disfluencies and gestures we produce when we speak act as metacognitive cues? Our new paper is out now to answer this question! Great work led by Begüm Yılmaz @begumyilmaz.bsky.social 👐💬 #CogPsych #PsychSciSky

Many psychologists are treating LLMs as if they are the mind of god.

This study had chatGPT rate how central academic disciplines are to various constructs.

Why would chatGPT know this?

Where is the evidence its ratings are reliable or valid?

New paper with @richarddmorey.bsky.social now out in JASA, where we critically examine p-curve. Below is Richard’s excellent summary of the many poor statistical properties of p-curve (with link to paper). I wanted to add some conceptual issues that we also tackle in the paper.

Let’s see if Bluesky works for academic questions :)

I am looking for a good Introduction to Cognitive Psychology textbook.

Anyone have recommendations?

Bonus points if it is textbook authored by a woman or team of women.
