I was hoping to pick up one of the new Orwell £2 coins while in the UK and the Bank of England Museum obliged (at substantially more than the face value, of course). The edge inscription is valid in every generation, but feels particularly pertinent now:

"There was truth and there was untruth."

The British sixpence coin (aka "tanner" or "sixpenny bit")

First minted in 1551, during the reign of Edward VI, and circulated until 1980. The coin was made from silver until 1947, and thereafter in cupronickel.

I was out walking the dog on our usual route around the Sussex Downs this afternoon and spotted this on the ground. It’s a 1948 sixpence. Sixpences are often thought to be lucky so I’m hanging onto it just in case.

A Romanian metal detectorist has uncovered a vast hoard of ancient Roman silver coins near the village of Letca Veche, about 25 miles southwest of Bucharest.

The 1,469 Roman silver denarii date from 54-161 AD and feature the images of 11 different emperors and empresses.
