#Columbusing
The Columbusing of games happens every 3-5 years, like clockwork

I love how these dudes are so stupid and self-centered they think if they didn't know something, then no one ever has. completely un-self-aware Columbusing, basically

Is Dora "the Explorer" actually Columbusing?

A friend of mine called it "Columbusing."

Game Design and Game Studies are robust fully fleshed out fields that don't require historians Columbusing them, thanks though.
Also, I'm *so* happy the AHA is encouraging vibecoding of games, instead of drawing on colleagues who've been creating with students using Twine. And thank god *someone* is using video games in the classroom, at last! 🙃

Gonna Columbus Columbusing from Columbus.
Just claim credit for something of non-British origin. British history is full of "inventors" who were the first *in Britain* to do something

And I want the literary folks who stumble in to stop fucking Columbusing and engage with the *literal generations* of work they could (should) be in conversation with.
I just want people to talk about games in long-form writing. I want them to treat it seriously and not like the little brother of the video game industry. I want more perspectives who don't care about petty osr/storygame squabbles or "do systems matter" bullshit.

Long-form, serious writing.
Tabletop folks: with Dicebreaker & Polygon gone, & the industry facing very tough times, what would you like to see more of in tabletop games journalism & media? Imagine every most rosy scenario came true - what do you love & what do you want that you don't get enough of? I'd love to know.

Love how CBS gives credit saying Wapo broke the news after citing someone else who broke the news. That's some modern day Columbusing!

Yt pp really be acting like the genocide if the ppl indigenous to this land, slavery, black codes, and Jim Crow didn't happen. Like... Columbusing fascism in the American government 🤡
America has never been subject to this level of authoritarianism, and quite frankly, sheer incompetence.

Out of the ashes, this moment should radicalize us to embark on an era of new reform — of our economy, our democracy, and our commitment to social justice and the law.

"Pace the frontier"

Makes sense the broligarchs would choose this settler colonial metaphor, since their actual proposal is just a weak sauce columbusing of regulatory authority

Excellent 🧵 by a historian pointing to the Columbusing + distortion of a part of Jewish history well known to scholars, by the New York Times and New Yorker right after each other. 🗃️
Every few years someone becomes the latest first person ever to discover the Galveston Movement and writes about it with fresh astonishment.

The Galveston Mvt was NOT about finding a Jewish Promised Land in Texas. The opposite — it was about preventing one anywhere.
