#Consumerism
Voting as consumerism is a pernicious social contagion in the United States
I will never stop being stunned at the number of people who treat their vote as a precious little piece of performance art. Yes, this would be better than voting for Rogers. It would, however, be worse than behaving like a responsible and decent adult who understands what voting is meant to do.

Vampire movies are about class; zombie movie are about consumerism: EVIL DEAD movies are about how it’s fun to torture Bruce Campbell

I'm just gonna say it...the way preparedness is used in the US is not for the sake of preparation but to drive consumerism and capitalism. Folks running out to buy buy buy and hoard hoard hoard.

the Ao3 situation has gotten so funny, the entitlement, the consumerism, it’s like Lord Of The Flies for girls

another Victim of Consumerism
As I read more and more books and papers and discussions of feminism and solidarity and movement politics, it becomes clear that the didactic energy of the 2010s was effectively neutered by people treating learning about oppression as personal improvement, self-help, and a kind of branding.

Another part of it is just, we are a much richer country now with far more consumerism.

consumerism W it’s time to game

Yes yes YES.

Standard time is what we need to lock in, not the consumerism garbage that is DST.
happy standard-time day to much of north america, and a reminder that this is the correct time to make permanent. i hope western canadians celebrating their new winter DST will enjoy the sun rising well after 9am by new years.

Consumerism has eroded citizenship.

being a “slow ass writer” is really just a fuck you to consumerism and capitalism so watch me going up against the giant evil goliath

in five years when ao3 comes back online i will still have no new chapter for anybody 🖕😎🖕(/sarcasm with a dash of truth)

I somehow missed these.

Look, when a person who makes 200k a year is complaining about the cost of deli turkey, you no longer have a politics of "affordability," you have a politics of unconstrained consumerism.
He didn't even show the funniest ones lol

it's community is consumerism. I blame the 2020 pandemic when fandom got flooded with normies.

The American left overstates the importance of consumerism (what you watch, what you consume) and understates the importance of what you do (protest, organizing, volunteering). You would think your taste in movies would decide the fate of the world

We gotta figure out a way to divorce hobbies from rampant unending consumerism. I understand why there are 50k social media and youtube accounts dedicated to nonstop product reviews and showcases but it is 100% the worst most damaging way to engage in a hobby and the algo is stacked against you

Weird thing to waste energy sending hope to someone exercising conscious consumerism.

Shall I pray for you that you want to gargle fascist balls by supporting shitty people?

Whyn’t you just mind your business and let everyone else mind theirs.

It's not even consumerism, it's just a new and strangely inverted variant of keeping up with the Joneses. "I'll not have what they're not having!"
October 29, 2026 at 10:18 AM
*consumerism intensifies*
November 2, 2026 at 10:55 PM
Everything at this stage of consumerism really is like ‘what if instead of selling you something we just held you upside down & shook all the change outta your pockets’

There’s like this level of Pain As A Price Of Admission with everything now. Trying to watch a movie feels like buying insurance.

For as much as consumerism can go fuck itself, objects are important to humans, whether we like it or not. We didn’t climb out of the primordial soup and develop hands with which to make objects to then not own any

Crazy how good ideas get flattened by the hydraulic press of individualist consumerism!

As all decent people do! Fuck consumerism!
I'm a traditionalist, I don't acknowledge anything regarding Christmas until I've finished my pie on Thanksgiving

It was co-opted by corporate consumerism and blind patriotism.
