apparently the epagomenal days are the five extra days which leap years get in the Egyptian, Coptic and Ethiopian calendars. they’re called النسي in-nasy ‘the delay’ in Egyptian Arabic, and ጳጕሜን ṗāgʷmen in Gəʕəz (← ἐπαγόμεναι)
The announcers of the great storm-cloud go forth from the horizon, the inner apartment of Her who bore the gods on the five epagomenal days, (even) they who are before you. (CTF3)

How close is Egyptian to Semitic?

#Coptic ⲖⲀⲀⲨ "nothing" might preserve the same long vowel as the Proto-Semitic active participle.

It also might be 12th/13th Dynasty "officialese."

All this now up on my blog.

Almost everyone but a few insufferable liberals like Naguib Mahfouz and Omar Shariff opposed it. The Coptic Church and the Muslim Brotherhood and even the Salafis were in agreement about opposition to it.

Despite what you learn in textbooks, Ancient Egyptian might have had a way to write L -- it was a digraph of I + R.

Exhibit #1 is iry "any" > #Coptic ⲖⲀⲀⲨ "nothing."

The latest, on my blog.

Yes. But the two back fricative sounds h~ḥ ultimately merge by Proto-Coptic to ϩⲱⲣ, ϩⲁⲣ, ϩⲣ-, etc. It’s not clear at what point this happened since our transcription of elements like the Horus falcon in Demotic is conservative. Satzinger estimates the 7th century BCE for Proto-Coptic though.

That's interesting, I didn't know about the Coptic usage in Egypt, only the famous Quranic prohibition of al-nasīʾ
