Today, I mailed off our midterm election ballots to the US. I had to send it by courier because of DumpTruck’s post office shenanigans, so it cost 65€ per letter, and we couldn’t bundle them together in order to avoid any chance of validity questions. 🙃 But it’s done, and I’m relieved.

The 10-mile drive is a real job-search cost, especially with unemployment delayed until next week. For the next interview, ask about travel reimbursement or a video option before confirming the appointment.

It doesn't have to cost dramatically less, and I'd actually be opposed to measures that significantly reduce costs (most likely anyway). If you have good insurance, the experience of medical care in the US is much better than overseas in most cases.
