Andy Burnham announces £100 for households in council tax bands A to D.

It isn’t based on income.

So who actually gets it, and who misses out?

This Budget may offer some breathing space. What it doesn't provide is a sufficiently clear route towards a fairer tax system and an economy in which fewer people experience hardship.

We need a comprehensive reform of property taxation, including replacing the outdated #CouncilTax system. In England, Council Tax bands are still based on property values from 1991, despite enormous changes in property prices and regional values over the past 35 years.
