Yesterday I completed 8 (out of 16) chapters of "OS in 1k lines" using Zig.
Everything worked first try thanks to the book being well written, help from chat, and Zig crosscompiling for riscv32 seamlessly.

Yesterday I completed 8 (out of 16) chapters of "OS in 1k lines" using Zig.

I’ve nixified my build pipelines (gitlab ci) at work recently and compared to my old, fat, hard to maintain Docker images - it’s just.. waow. It does everything the original image did (crosscompiling, signing, packaging) but better, faster, without some weird workarounds. Rust+crane+determinism awhh

Ja, könnte ein Ausweg sein, habe gerade die Kurzbeschreibung dazu gelesen. Crosscompiling müsste ja auch gehen, aber direkt nach dem ersten Installationsschritt wohl noch nicht so möglich.

they've improved the rust crosscompiling stuff a lot since i last tried it, you can just define a json file for the arch for cargo to use and provide a linker script...

Ja, man sollte stage3 installieren und das System bootfähig machen. Das geht relativ schnell. Dann kann man das crosscompiling einrichten. Ccache ist auch eine tolle Sache, um das kompilieren insgesamt zu beschleunigen.

I used to use on at work. We used a VAX mainframe for cutting and crosscompiling code to 68000 assembly and executable and an SE for office type work.

god crosscompiling customized mame is a massive pain. the fact that it's libretro is a whole extra level of cursed, fuck

Personalmente uso Xubuntu perché le varie "shell" mi mandano ai pazzi e preferisco i menù vecchio stile. Se fai crosscompiling con target windows però il top è la Fedora he ha native un sacco di librerie in versione mingw

Eu uso p Pycharm/CLion + Chrome, e assim como vc preciso as vezes de VM em arm, crosscompiling toolchains etc. Em casa meu PC tem 32gb de ram entao é mais suave. mas mesmo assim, to estupefato q 16gb foi táo rapido

#pkgconfig's rules about when it does or does not apply a sysroot base seem to be very inconsistent. I guess I'm going to have to look at the actual code to see why this may be. #crosscompiling #buildroot

Also it would be crosscompiling for the target architecture which also adds a lot of ambiguity that has potential to leave holes in the proves.
It's a good start, I'll keep a tab open on it, but at least until now I'm not convinced this would prevent such soohisticated state sponsored attacks.
