I've been in Montréal for 30minutes and have gotten on the metro with 5min headways, train with open gangway, walked out onto a pedestrian only street, seen a bodega on a neighborhood street corner, and seen two protected bike lanes/cycletracks with so many people biking late on a Sunday. I'm fked.

Calgary doesn't have nearly enough cycletracks but it does have transit-accessible groomed fatbike/XC ski trails right in the middle of the city #yycbike

Anybody know why the brand new PoW cycletracks are “closed” #ottbike? Pavement was dry and was entirely clear.
This is why people don’t bike in the winter, because we close perfectly good infrastructure, not because it’s cold.

W Jefferson streetscape project includes sidewalk-level cycletracks, raised crosswalks, and a ramp for the Southwest Greenway. Should be completed when Centennial park opens at the end of October.

It’s taken forever (sewer work etc) but the new Harbord lanes are looking great. Planters! Green rides. Lay the concrete deep so the bastards will have a hellofa time ripping them out.

The bikelanes were only painted in the EA and the official line was that upgrading them to full cycletracks would re-open the EA, delaying the LRT. It’s BS as we successfully upgraded to cycletracks at Six Points without an EA.

It’s weird. The 12 ave cycletracks are usually cleared super quick. This morning they had been cleared already when i woke up. Yesterday with the heavy snowfall? Didn’t see a plow until like 4 or 5 pm.

Wonderful Op-Ed! Sam commutes to and from school by bike throughout the entire school year. Most of his trip is on cycletrack infrastructure. One of the cycletrack pieces the AB govt whined about goes past our home. *All people* deserve safe ways to travel, and cycletracks are part of it. #yycbike

If there’s going to be a wave of unemployment, it’s probably time to talk about how a billion dollars spent on public transportation produces 16,419 job-months (even more if cycletracks and pedestrian infrastructure is included), whereas a billion dollars spent on freeways produces 8,781 job-months.

I'm just going to say it. I hate cycletracks. Give me a bike lane at road level with curbs separating me from the cars. Anything else is a godforsaken mess.

Stevenage council used to like planting thorn bushes next to cycletracks.
I never quite worked out what problem that was meant to solve. As it certainly created a very obvious issue for cyclists...

Even if it's turned over from automobile lanes to cycletracks, street furniture, and trees, that will be a net positive to carbon, air quality and safety. Paris of course is the easy example!

The suburb south of Portland, #milwaukie has created some nice links with cycletracks that feel like off-street paths that unceremoniously end. Ending up in a 5’ unprotected bike lane feels like an old standard for cities somehow 😜 🚲@nacto.bsky.social
