In a few hours of flight, we emit that amount (per passenger!). To remove it with #DACCS, you need to pump air 35,000 times through 20% efficient devices.
Preventing emissions is much easier than fixing the problem later.

Behind me, you can see 1 tonne of CO2 at atmospheric pressure.
It's enormous.
In a few hours of flight, we emit that amount (per passenger!). To remove it with #DACCS, you need to pump air 35,000 times through 20% efficient devices.

Sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) plays the same role in aviation as CCS/BECCS/DACCS play for other fossil-fuelled sectors: more a stalling tactic than solution. Good engineers work on SAF, but CEOs/politicians/etc deliberately mis-sell their role in mitigation.

DACCS ist aber 1. nicht die einzige Methode zur CO2-Entnahme und 2. kann niemand vorausschauen, wie sich die DACCS-Kosten in Zukunft entwickeln. Es wird wahrscheinlich nicht sehr günstig, aber die Schäden durch den Klimawandel werden auch immer teurer.

The overlap is the real story: siting CO2 trunk lines for BECCS and DACCS on top of already-congested grid corridors means two scarce build-outs competing for the same permits and power. Sequencing has to be planned jointly, not per silo.

Jetzt schon. Zukünftig müssen die bleibenden unvermeidlichen Emissionen durch Einlagerung von CO2 (DACCS) ausgeglichen werden, um netto Null zu erreichen. Damit man das dereinst kann, sollte man jetzt die Technologie hochskalieren.

How much of that 40-50MtCO2 is used for EOR - so even more fossil fuels? In 2021, when I checked the numbers, there was (as I recall) around 7MtCO2 actually captured and stored? Promises of CCS, BECCS & now DACCS have thus far been used to delay legislation rather than as real-world technologies.

Nicht ganz korrekt bzw. es kommt auf die Begriffsverwendung an, bei der das IPCC auch nicht konsistent ist. In allen 1,5/2-Grad-Szenarien ist bislang CDR notwendig, nicht CCS. CDR umfasst beim IPCC DACCS u. BECCS, sieht beide aber kritisch.
CCS im fossilen Abgasstrom ist beim IPCC nicht notwendig.

Yes, but enthusiasm is largely meaningless if it is never backed by meaningful project delivery.

That's because this study defines 'sustainability' as not relying on fossil fuels. Which imo is a pretty dumb criterion. FF + DACCS is clearly economically far superior.
