"Damn, those alien bastards are gonna pay for shooting up my ride."

Happy 29th Anniversary, our beloved DN3D! 🎂

Yes, Wizordum can run Duke Nukem 3D as well! ☢🧙‍♂️

Been kinda getting addicted to developing this tilemap layer map generator system, starting to get ideas for what I could do with this with how I could handle block heights, slopes and do that room over room DN3D does.
Wanna see how far I could take it

As fun as DN3D was, I will never for the life of me understand what makes him a "good" character.

He comes across to me as Dolph Lundgren cosplaying ECW Sandman while reading a Waffle House line cook's back bumper.

all of the nonsense around Duke Nukem Forever made sense because DN3D was a genuinely very innovative game in its genre and you felt like the sequel had a lot to live up to. BG&E is merely “pretty good”

Which DN3D guy?

Compulsively firing up DN3D E1M1 and spending time in all of its corners just to feel something else right now

MAN did this game suck shit. And I'm a big fan of Duke, as many of y'all know.

This game should have been a slam dunk coming off a game as iconic DN3D, but holy christ did they ever blow it.
'Duke Nukem Forever' released on this day in 2011.

The end result of fourteen years of mismanaged development was a predictable failure; between unappealing visuals, groanworthy attempts at humor, and gameplay torn between different decades of design convention.

I remember an old forum buddy who never played DN3D but was furious that they didn't credit Sam Raimi for all the lines lifted from ARMY OF DARKNESS.
As a kid, I knew the line 'I'm here to kick ass and chew bubble gum, and I'm all outta gum' from DUKE NUKEM 3D and not Carpenter's THEY LIVE (I watched that many years later for the first time).
Hail to the King, Baby! It's the 30th anniversary of the release of the game starring the Duke of Destruction, the Man of Mayhem, the one, the only...Duke Nukem! Now in 3D!

Released on DOS PCs on 29/01/1996, popularising the Build Engine and greater interactivity in FPS games.

see a DN3D episode would have to be made by people who understand build, so it's immune from his worst instincts

"the further back you go the more that's going to be an issue" as if OG Doom, DN3D and Quake aren't still fun as hell 30 years on and still hold up next to some modern shooters that hobble themselves with shit like "stamina meters" and "realistic guns"

Always bet on Duke.
Kind of a more cyberpunk take on him, inspired by the cover art of the second game (before DN3D).

I remember PC Gamer having an extremely mean review of this game

also how did it have a half-finished version of the Build engine in 1998? DN3D came out in '95!

And the fact that he wanted it to be cutting edge is quite ironic, because DN3D was notably not cutting edge. To contrary, it was in all aspects technologically inferior to Quake. Yet people still bought it, because the gameplay and character was so great.
September 20, 2026 at 4:48 PM
the DN3D team and especially Allen Blum deserve to be held in as high a regard as Romero and Petersen

he basically made episodes 1 and 2 himself, wrote editor docs, helped other people via mailing list etc

And another bonus, a PC Recomp of DN Zero Hour landed in the last 24 hours, with options to make it 100% first person, tweak the gameplay and controls to more more like DN3D, widescreen, proper KB+M controls, etc
