One of the FUNDIS collectors found this blatantly novel fungal species in Agaricales on Quercus in LA County.
His picture is so good I had to share - You can see the spores on the basidia!

Well this one threw me for a loop. My quick initial ID was gyroporus, but it ended up being a close relative of Aureoboletus roxanae - about 2% different in ITS.
There are only two other sequences under this temp, meanwhile we have dozens of sequences of A. roxanae.

We keep finding sequences where the fungi have two *wildly* different haplotypes in ITS on groups that otherwise don't have that much variation. Are they hybrids? Maybe, maybe not, but interesting regardless.
