Well, here we go. DOSBox-X creates an official separate "OS-free" branch that doesn't contain the actual DOS emulator & requires an installation of OS, to legally function in "jurisdictions that enforce OS level age verification".

deer is too tired to switch dosbox forks again but guess it has to be done. dosbox-staging is vibed, dosbox-x too... deer prefers to avoid stuff like dosbox pure because it's just... overengineered and does not fit her use case.
