today's wavewave is shrimp waves 🦐
wanted to make merformers designs for them since it's mermay, and i think their tfp designs work well as decapods 💕

what's with game dev community and decapods after all? #madewithgodot #godotendinge #gamedev

Like other common names for crustaceans, a lot of not very closely related - or even similar looking - species get called “shrimp”.

Shrimp usually means decapods

Mud shrimp are different, unrelated decapods

Mantis shrimp usually means stomatopods

Fairy shrimp usually means anacostracans

"haha carcinization is so crazy lol, it's almost like crabs have the perfect animal body plan lol"

You fool. You idiot. The WORM is the ideal body plan.

Carcinization is only found within a single order, the decapods. WORM is a phenomenon that spans multiple *phyla*

ok update: we have to re-organize all of crustacea because I put too many weirdos in the little weirdo space and it's starting to crowd out decapods

New study shows that 73% of #DeepSea decapods had ingested #microplastics, mostly fibers (91%). Catalan specimens had significantly more MPs than Sardinian ones. A. antennatus had the highest MP load in the Catalan area, Nephrops was the most contaminated decapod in Sardinia.

This year I'll also resurrect the #Crustmas skeets from when I had a plan 2 years ago lol

But seriously after today it mostly won't be decapods from me! 🦑🧪
Starting off #Crustmas with a bunch of Rhynchocinetes durbanensis shrimps, which have a seasonal color scheme (but not the same family as "peppermint shrimp")

Shrimpostor'd!

Because it's the MONSTER LARVA Cerataspis monstrosa 🧟‍♀️🦐

The larva is awesome but the adult is a normal red colored shrimp. So we didn't even know they were the same species until DNA.

11/ongoing list of Halloween crabs (and other decapods)

The monstrously beautiful #shrimp #Cerataspis #monstrosa. Seen here as its #larval stage, spinning crazy spirals. I’ve let the speed increase up to its real-life speed at the end to give you an impression of how it really swims, and the difficulties in filming it😵‍💫.

Hello friend! The big difference between the Mirelurks from Fallout 3 & 4 is that they are actually different species of crab. The “primordial” biology of decapods (& invertebrates) make them susceptible to sustainable changes in mutation, which is why we see so many of these giant creatures!

SHRIMPtember 🦐 While they are shrimp-shaped, Antarctic krill aren't decapods! They are small, but numerous and vital to the Antarctic ecosystem. (You know there's a lot of krill because they're measured by mass instead of quantity)

Why does evolution keep creating 'imposter crabs'? 🧪 www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...
Bath professor explains why evolution creates imposter crabs
'Crabs' are a collection of decapods that have evolved over millions of years to look the same.

Well, the left claw and legs are pretty much done, except for the orange bristles which come later.

Now I just have to paint the claw and legs on the right side, and the carapace, and texture the background, and...🫠

(Don't paint decapods kids. Actually please do).

Seafood Animals Are Probably Sentient — Now What? - Faunalytics
Evidence indicates that octopuses, squids, lobsters, crabs, and shrimps experience pain and suffering. The seafood industry needs to change.
