Economic decoupling from a geopolitical rival makes me nervous
Crazy milestone in the US trade data released today—America now imports more directly from Taiwan than from China for the first time since 1992

The trade war has cut US direct trade with China, and the AI boom has caused a surge in spending on Taiwanese-made semiconductors

A fully fascist state emerges. Decoupling is needed, quickly.
JD Vance: "It was a legitimate law enforcement operation. We were going door to door to try to find criminal illegal aliens and deport them from the United States ... say a prayer for that agent ... he deserves a debt of gratitude."

Good to work together, but… we, Europe, may need a plan for decoupling from America (to be resilient and build on our strenghts and interests).

The two are not always related

Decoupling at work. Climate action is good, not bad, for the economy
📉 California cut climate emissions again in 2024 — statewide emissions fell another 3.9% in 2024 extending a 20-year downward trend even as the economy continues to expand.

Two decades after AB 32, California’s climate progress continues delivering real progress. ➡️ buff.ly/zLXsrJY

Trump engineering a decoupling from Canada, the question being how much pain it will bring to all involved.
Here’s a quick hit about how Stephen Harper, Mark Carney, and Tiff Macklem all warned that Canada must diversify its economy away from excessive exposure to the US within the space of about 24 hours responsiblestatecraft.org/us-canada-re...

And that’s why European cities, of all sizes, are rapidly decoupling from automobile dependency.
A typical European car is parked 92% of the time. It spends 1/5th of its driving time looking for parking. Its 5 seats only move 1.5 people. 86% of its fuel never reaches the wheels, and most of the energy that does, moves the car, not the people.

Sound efficient?

Decoupling a couple of train cars by derailing the whole shebang
NGL "the US and China should be less economically entwined" as a defense of what Trump is doing is about as reasonable as saying "well they did need to get a divorce" about a marriage where the husband is planning to do a murder suicide in front of the whole family
