2026 sets the stage. It puts Democrats within striking distance of a world where, with a Democratic president, they could set to work on the fundamental reconstruction of democracy in the U.S. That's the work of the next two years: building both the vision and the blueprint for that reconstruction.
if alaska flips and mississippi holds then a 56 seat senate majority opens up the potential for a filibuster proof one after 2028. with that kind of majority, you can do real deal structural change. as well as reinstate the rights and protections stripped by the supreme court

“Democrat Scott Colom’s lead over incumbent Republican U.S. Sen. Cindy Hyde-Smith has grown from 65 earlier to 1,138 votes with an estimated 96% of votes counted.
Significant votes are still outstanding in Democratic-friendly Hinds County, as well as thousands of affidavit ballots”
Huh. “Mississippi [is] the only state in the country with no legal provision that allows for a recount of votes in a statewide election.” www.nytimes.com/2026/11/04/u...
not only was this the first truly decisive election in 15 years, not only was it the first real repudiation the MAGA Republican Party has experienced, but it is an earthquake in the South. with investment — and with laws protecting the right to vote — the whole region could be blue.
