#Deload
Had a pretty good deload day today.

Gym progress stuff: reached 17,5kg per hand with dumbbell shoulder press (seated) yesterday, slowly working my way towards the 20kg goal 💪 I had been stuck on 15kg per hand for over a month before my deload week, I’m really happy it helped me to get past multiple plateaus

After 2 weeks of rest/recovery from the osteoarthritis flare up in my knee, I'm back at the gym with a 20% deload.
November 2, 2026 at 9:29 PM
I also got past a bench press plateau, and could finally add more weight (5kg) while maintaining a good form and full range of motion, so right now I bench press 52kg but hopefully I’ll continue to make progress with planned deload weeks to boost my recovery

Thank you! It's always exciting hitting a new big number!

Need a dang deload week, but new big number lets goooo!!

The problem with a deload week after about 15 months of the weights consistently going up while lifting is that my ego struggles mightily with handling the fact that it was too easy and that's actually good for me

Plateaus are for resting on extended climbs, and the bigger number is still there

Hell week plus a weather drop is brutal on the knees, and the late-thirties gym club is bigger than people admit. Hope the deload comes soon.

Final workout results i followed for 5 weeks, the very last one being deload week, now for a week off :)

I took a deload week and one thing about me is I always feel like an ugly fat slob when I take a full week off lifting. I’ll get over it but the mind games are real.

Deload weeks are neat.

Rules six to ten:

6. Add a rep, not a whole new programme
7. Put legs at the start of the week
8. Walk every day, even for ten minutes
9. Take the deload before you need it
10. Write it down or February is a guess

Deload Push/pull. 57 min, lifted 37k. Slept great last night. Hope this continues. I’ll start new cycle Tuesday. Now to watch daughter cheer this afternoon in Columbus. #gymsky #fitnesssky

I hurt my own feelings today by trying to get back in the gym after a period of not going consistently. I didn't feel up to the work weight I had projected, so I did kind of a deload/active recovery. I guess I've got to just sort of redouble my efforts to get in the gym consistently, but it's...

The Deload Week: How Teachers Get Through a Hard Week Without Quitting
Here's your quote, resource, book, and an affirmation to power you through the rest of your week. ### Quote > "Fatigue makes cowards of us all." > — Vince Lombardi ### Resource: The Deload Week Weightlifters have a word every teacher should know. Deload. Every few weeks, a smart training plan backs off on purpose. Fewer sets, fewer reps. Effort levels stay high but the weight lifted drops. Nobody in a weight room calls that quitting. It's on the plan. Teachers don't get to schedule ours. Ours just shows up, usually right about now, when grades are due, Halloween lands on a Saturday (so watch out for Friday), the clocks fall back, and you haven't eaten lunch sitting down in the last few weeks. So call it what it is. This is a storm week. Once it has a name, you can plan for it. Now, cut the volume. Pick one thing that can wait, and write down the day you'll pick it back up. The bulletin board. The second email explaining the first email. The kids and the grading are the lifts that matter. Something else gets lighter. And if you need a spotter, ask. Busy stretches are exactly when we stop reaching out (more on that in Head Down, Get It Done). Vince Lombardi hung that line in the Packers' locker room for a reason (Wise man, even from a Bears fan perspective). When sleep researcher Matthew Walker kept people awake for a night, the brain's alarm center fired about 60% harder at upsetting pictures. Tired brains overreact. Fatigue makes us smaller versions of ourselves. Sunday I felt lousy and almost skipped my 10-minute challenge walk. Went anyway, short and slow. Just enough to keep the habit alive. _Full disclosure - I'm finishing up this newsletter today at home, sick, on a forced deload. Today's walk is in jeopardy, and that's okay too._ When I ruck during a hard week, I don't skip the route. I pull a few pounds out of the pack and walk the same road. Momentum is maintained while the load is a little less taxing. So take something out of the pack this week. Keep walking. ### Book Good to Go by Christie Aschwanden - A science journalist and former ski racer tries the whole recovery industry on herself (ice baths, cryotherapy, even beer) and finds that what actually works is almost boring: sleep and real rest. I can carry less this week and still be the teacher my students need. ### P.S. It's Day 9 of our 30-day challenge. Deload yours too: a five-minute walk still counts. I’ve definitely tried to come back after a race too fast several times. Good to listen to your body and give it the time to recover. I generally don’t deload a whole week upfront, but sometimes listening to my body leads to a deload week naturally.

Definitely call it a deload week, hard to get out with apoorly child - hopefully the rest will do you good 👍 ❤️‍🩹

Hope you can deload next week! I hear ya on the hip. Mine speaks to me regularly!

Well done 👍
(If you think you need a deload week then take one!)

Deload day, 27k lifted, 34 min. I flew through it. Easy evening. Knees bothering me still. #gymsky #fitnesssky
Push/pull today.
October 24, 2026 at 10:32 AM
it has a deload scheduled at week 6 by default, but I think it’s pretty configurable if you want to adjust that
October 26, 2026 at 4:40 PM
It's a trap, that enticing thought of using the training advantage and stacking more. That way lies overuse injuries. I learned the hard way: deload after a race. Well done, though!

The irony of my smug at 12 weeks of consistent running, only for it all to go pot this week. Poorly small, hiccups with Eotas & my own utter exhaustion, has meant only parkrun this week. I cd run early tomorrow but the 50mph wind is not convincing me. Calling it a deload week, monday we go again.
Little 2 mile run to get to 20 miles for the eeek, marking 12 weeks of consistent mileage. Then rail walkimg duties at juniors. Mainly in the sun before the rain arrived. At least my shoes matched the snail & brightened up the day. #running2keepthecrazyaway #running #rainyday #parkrun

27k lbs on deload day? 😂

Your knees might have a different definition of "easy" than you do!

Hope they feel better soon. 💪

Cycle 4 deload pull day, 27k lifted, 43 mins. Nice and easy night. Legs tomorrow. #gymsky #fitnesssky
