#DevTeams
There's an open platform called Revolt that's pretty similar to Discord being worked on.

I'm assuming we'll all be there in short order.

The REAL tragedy will be all the knowledge memoryholed given how many devteams use Discord and not open forums for development/support.

Just saw @duskdev.bsky.social & Mplier's IRON LUNG & had an absolute blast. Like a v intense 1-man play but with more blood. Loved how you only see other chracters through a tiny porthole - metaphor for remote-work devteams, perchance? Also, just super super cool to see an indie game in a CINEMA WTF

enough time has passed. remove the character limit and I will donate $2 to the bluesky devteams little caesars and tap water budget

I have more than 70 replies to the Gamedev glossary I'm currently writing.
Thank you so much everyone!
I'm considering redoing this map so you'll know which devteams contributed to this book!

""Can you work alongside our developers?""

Yes. Most of our work does. We agree at the start who owns which part of the codebase, and review each other's pull requests. The boundary is written down, not discovered in a merge conflict.

Was it a lil weird to anyone else just how much summer game fest kept emphasising small devteams when announcing games?

Lowkey worried that if certain CEOs assume that's a super good marketing technique they'll abuse their workers even more LMAO

the little mistypes in newer regreg dialogue is kind of cute but theres like 10 writers i worry for the devteams workload at times

I cant even make shitposts for all these but bro. UC timeline style beam saber. Catboy riddhe pilot. Kshatriya funnels. 00 raiser wings. Barbatos lupus rex’s weapon for a wolf-themed mech. The devteams are such gundam nerds (i am also gundam nerds FAHDGD)

words even some of the (heterogeneous membership of) devteams work with circumstances

the devteams of ps2 racing games all messed up because there are only like 4 ps2 racing games with full negcon support (but thankfully ridge racer 5 is one of those)

Game producers = Communication + Execution.

That’s the job. That’s the challenge.

Producers — what's your secret to doing both well?

it was always embarrassing to say but it's even more embarrassing in a world where friction is no longer the norm and even devteams known for asking a lot of the player are doing their best to make you have 'fun' within minutes

You really can tell how bad they are at storytelling when you look at the other devteams that work under them, like Prey's story was really damn cool with plenty of sidestories that offered substance. Hell DOOM had better storytelling.

I could name a dozen or more tiny, one or two-person devteams who are somehow managing to crank out amazing games without resorting to AI

as much as I love sega rhythm games, I think too many modern arcade rhythm games rn are trying to copy them leading to a "been there done that" type of feeling

I understand that the state of arcades rn are dire and that devteams need a consistent banger to survive buuuut (continued.)

I swear that there are many more ex-konmai employees than konmai employees rn

compared to other japanese devteams (the latest yakuza games have developers that started working at SEGA since virtua fighter 2) the retention rate is terrible
April 17, 2025 at 12:16 AM
feels like too many fps devteams love giving people exactly what they expect out of their game's perceived subgenre instead of what would be best for that specific game

like you said the entire sidequest could be its own game bc of how good it is
the entire sidequest is playing at the devteams strengths and creativity and theyre able to go all out with it

As someone who really hasn't watched a lot of the guy, Scott the Woz comes across to me as a nostalgiafucked weirdo who truly only believes videogames are made by Sony, Microsoft or Nintendo instead of the actual devteams behind them

When EGS was announced i was happy to see the split of revenue.

Then started poaching exclusives and whole devteams to work on fortnite

Then they added nfts qnd blockchain games

then they proudly let ai slop go unmarked

Yea.

Starting a new project as an engineer shouldn’t feel like being dropped into the deep end with no docs, no context and no onboarding.

The big projects off the top of my head that have are Android and Chrom(ium) which have core devteams literally within Google proper... so a far cry from the sponsorship model with Blender (and Anthropic and Google/Meta compete so I don't see Anthropic getting exclusive access or something)
