An update on this: the Bishop confirms his priests did get JobKeeper during COVID (even though his lawyers argue in another context they aren’t technically employed by the diocese and therefore the diocese isn’t vicariously liable if they abused children) because churches closed during lockdowns.
A question for Bishop Bird, of Ballarat, who instructed his lawyers to go all the way to High Court to avoid paying damages to a complainant of child sexual abuse on basis that priests aren’t technically employed by his diocese:

I've gotta be honest, I work hard to dispel bad feeling people at St Nicks have about the Diocese, but I see other churches in other diocese advertising for clergy and I think of how we've been told we'll never have a priest again unless we can pay the diocese £70k a year and I just... feel things.
