A friend sent me this image recently and I’m hypnotized by it. There’s like 5 different discourses glued into this while saying absolutely nothing at all. Beautiful

The fact that like three different discourses already started after AO3 has only been down for three days tells me that it is truly a load bearing wall of the internet

Fascist discourse is more a virus than an argument, the point of it is to grant permission to bystanders of the conversation to be their worst selves, to do violence to the discourses target and to stretch the boundaries of permissible speech and thought, not to convince, inform or communicate

the way multiple discourses have unfolded in the larger indie games sphere within the last year or so on here has really depressed me. a lot of crabs in the bucket mentality, and jockeying to be the biggest fish in a rapidly shrinking pond.

So not sure cleaving to "it's inevitable" discourses re: a 4 year old commercial technology that many people hate and that's demonstrably unprofitable is the way to go here

Descriptions of Palestinians were consistent with colonial discourses of erasure, civilizing projects, backwards peoples, etc. etc. right from the beginning and on into the present.

I know that one of the Forbidden Discourses on this site is should you work for the NY Times but I sure wouldn’t
Honestly in shock.

@nytimes.com terminated the contract of romance fiction columnist Olivia Waite because she reposted on Bluesky criticism I and @markjacob.bsky.social had of the paper’s lack of coverage of the new rape allegations against Donald Trump.

Details and a statement from Olivia here:

What's funny is there are at least three different discourses this could apply to and somehow "The online right is now posting through it with Anakin Skywalker/Prequel fascism is good actually memes" is...the least likely to be the one you mean

Given late 18th-19thC 'scientific' discourses around skin color, it's always interesting to see when chromos and hand-painted lithos are and are *not* faithful to the subject's skin color.

We try not to participate in “you won’t believe which dogshit book is super popular right now” discourse after realizing it’s perhaps one of the oldest discourses of all time. Like people have been doing it for over a century. But anytime someone shares a passage from a LitRPG it’s hard to hold back

Promoting my own work has always been a challenge.
I internalized a LOT of toxic aughts-era forum rules against self-promotion of any kind, and it was grafted on to my own lack of self-confidence and various twitter discourses from the mid 2010’s.

So I just feel reticent to adequately self-promote.

Yeah. There are gonna be some extremely aggravating new discourses but I will have a LOT of gloating to do to make up for it.

I feel blessed I generally stay away from those kind of discourses and from instagram generally

The way fandom treats creators artists and writers alike are simply astounding. The discourses I’ve seen this week are so vile where is the basic human decency and respect for someone who pours so much time and effort into making things that bring you joy
