#EpigraphyTuesday - This inscription from Lambaesis (Numidia), Algeria, is the earliest dateable evidence for the Roman cult of Jupiter Dolichenus outside of Doliche (Commagene). Sextus Julius Maior, commander of Legio III Augusta, dedicated a temple to Jupiter Dolichenus at Lambaesis in AD 125/126.

kind of funny greek authors seemingly struggled with foreign deities with names of the "lord/lady of (place)" sort like Baalat Gebal or the god of Doliche even though theonyms like that were common in mycenaean (the potnias...) and remained a thing in pamphylia and on cyprus for much longer
