Customers get a little more time to use pre-paid backorder credits. GoDaddy (NYSE: GDDY) has extended the deadline for customers to use domain backorder credits. The company announced last August that it was sunsetting its backorder product and gave customers 12 months to use the credits. Today, it announced a 60-day extension to October 7. GoDaddy never competed well with dropcatching services like SnapNames and DropCatch, which utilize numerous registrar credentials to acquire domains.

Overhead costs are increasing as the company grabs fewer expired domains. Every month, I look at the latest data that Verisign files with ICANN, which shows .com activity at each registrar. In recent months, there has been a notable drop in activity at TurnCommerce, the company that operates DropCatch.com.
