#ED138
Astronomers have spotted a new dwarf planet candidate in the solar system, beyond the orbit of Pluto, which they provisionally named ED138.

ED138’s diameter is estimated to be between 600 and 1,500 kilometers, which would make it bigger than the largest asteroid Ceres, which has a size of 945 km.

A new planet has been discovered by @rubinobservatory.org! It's called Ed*.

*2026 ED138, but just "Ed the planet" has a certain ring to it
@rubinobservatory.org has found its first dwarf planet candidate: 2026 ED138.

It lies beyond Pluto, roughly 46 astronomical units out, and ranks among the biggest and brightest objects found in that part of the Solar System.

What do you think?

OK, this is big.

The @rubinobservatory.org has detected its first candidate dwarf planet!

It's currently named 2026 ED138. When confirmed with follow-up observations, the number of known dwarf planets will go from 5 to 6.

Its orbit is shown with those of the other dwarf planets in this graphic.

Lying beyond Pluto, 2026 ED138 could be as large as 1,500 kilometers in diameter. Astronomers are still working to confirm whether it meets the criteria for a dwarf planet.

New dwarf planet just dropped.

For now, it's called 2026 ED138. It appears to be ~1000 kilometers (600 miles) wide. If confirmed, that would make it a dwarf planet about half the size of Pluto. 🧪🔭

A new trans-Neptunian object has just been discovered - 2026 ED138 - that is anomalously bright and as such may even been a dwarf planet. I did a deep dive into 2026 ED138 and what I discovered blew me away. This dwarf planet candidate may be the most significant astrological discovery since Pluto.
