Brilliant, #ESAJuice got itself an XKCD! #planetsci
I’ve got a soft spot for Europa Clipper, but I have to admit that JuIcE is a catchier name.

And because we live in an age of wonders, here at the images taken from #ESAJuice taken just a few hours ago... look at Madagascar! bsky.app/profile/scie...
A successful Earth flyby improves Juice’s course to Jupiter

Earlier today, Juice flew just 8640 km above the Indian Ocean and snapped these images with its onboard monitoring cameras.

Happening today: #ESAJuice inbound! Our Jupiter-bound spacecraft will fly high over the Indian Ocean in a few hours, picking up speed, with closest approach at 1145UT = 1245BST = 1345CEST = 0745EDT
Everything you needed to know about #ESAJuice returning to Earth for a flyby next week! Our spacecraft is now 41% of the way through its long journey to Jupiter. #planetsci
Juice is returning to Earth, again 🛰️

On 28 September the spacecraft will fly by Earth, coming within 8640 km of our planet.

The closest approach will be over the Indian Ocean at 13:45 CEST (11:45 UTC) 👉 www.esa.int/Science_Expl...

The #EPSC2026 meetings have always had a strong presence of amateur astronomers, and a session dedicated to pro-am collaboration. Right now, Ricardo Hueso is sharing our hopes for observational support for #ESAJuice in the 2030s, following the success of Juno collaborations.

Incredibly, despite their different paths and development times, #ESAJuice and #EuropaClipper will both fly by Europa within 4 hours of each other in 2032… a first for studying the potential ocean world, with synergistic opportunities being developed by an international team. #EPSC2026
September 9, 2026 at 12:31 PM
When #EuropaClipper arrives at Jupiter, #ESAJuice will still be in its cruise. But from April 2030, JUICE could serve as a great “upstream monitor,” tracking the solar wind before it reaches Clipper within Jupiter‘s complex magnetic environment. We just have to switch on the payload early. #EPSC2026
September 9, 2026 at 1:21 PM
As someone involved in EJSM nearly 20yrs ago, sitting in #EPSC2026 talks and learning how #ESAJuice and #EuropaClipper are now doing science during cruise is pretty mind-bending: tracking solar ejections, radar scans of Mars, detecting Earth’s lightning from above, and even an interstellar object.
September 9, 2026 at 12:31 PM
Both of these Jupiter-bound spacecraft are heading back to Earth to gain speed for the slingshot to Jupiter. #ESAJuice flys past on September 28th, #EuropaClipper on December 3rd, giving them both the opportunity to test instruments and hopefully do some new science. #EPSC2026

Still looping majestically around the inner solar system, gathering speed, until it finally travels across the void to Jupiter between 2029 and 2031.... #ESAJuice
Juice is 40% of the way into its journey and getting ready to return home for an Earth flyby next month.

Teams are busy preparing for this milestone, which will see all 10 of Juice's instruments switched on, taking photos and collecting science data. Stay tuned!

After a world-first Earth-Moon double gravity assist in August 2024, our @esa.int #ESAJuice mission passed its hottest point enroute to Jupiter. On 1 January 2025 🎉, #ESAJuice was just 0.64 AU from the Sun. A flawless deep space manoeuvre was executed at midnight to adjust our trajectory to Venus!

Listen to #ESAJuice flyby of the Earth on its gravitational slingshot to Jupiter! There are no soundwaves in space, but there are plenty of other kinds of waves! We have turned the radio wave environment around Earth into an audio soundtrack:
