Linux + ewaste server GPUs + local LLMs >>> Google's crap
This is why the FOSS hardliners are always right
tech companies should not have this much power

now see when I talk about ewaste like this people give me funny looks.
BREAKING: OpenAI CEO Sam Altman says having RAM in personal computers is an inefficient use of the world’s limited DRAM supply, arguing it would be better allocated to data centers, per Tom’s Hardware

If I had more solar panels I'd be running a fuckin datacenter made outta ewaste from my garage.
October 30, 2026 at 8:36 PM
I wonder what Sam thinks of my box of random memory.

Today I will buy a ewaste

Kind of makes me want to hoard all my ram more
Get the old stuff from ewaste and use that too.
October 31, 2026 at 8:07 AM
I only have 8GB of RAM on my ancient ass laptop and I can't do shit with it so I don't wanna hear about how greedy real people are for having/wanting RAM. I need more RAM so I can play video games. Fuck your AI ewaste

Skilling disadvantaged youth in conserving environment through repair to reuse and installations ,it is among of strategies we use to stop ewaste dumping into landfills. #climate #pollution #environment #youth

Yeah it’s of course a gamble which is why you should be prepared for the worst case scenario and accept the best. Mostly you’re just eyeballing based on a hunch and context clues like a seller, or go to an ewaste facility in person. I’m saying is the number of times the repair is trivial is often.

installation of satellite dish to help disadvantage community to atleast watch news and entertainment .Stop dumping Ewaste “repair to reuse or refer to appropriate recyclers! #environmentalconservation #pollution #climate #nature

I liked Mint Cinnamon as well. Also LMDE quite a bit. But so far, have stuck with Slackware 15 on my 4GB Toshiba 330,,, what you've referred to as Ewaste laptop. It works just fine.

Not really Google converted HBM blades to use recycled DDR4 from their own reclaimed ewaste.

So no, there are no ethical uses for generative AI. If every time I pounded in a nail, I knew that I was poisoning a community in Nebraska or contributing to ewaste (AI machines are run fast and hard and last a scant few years), or raising the price of electricity in Ohio, I would stop using it.

And the accidentally cool thing is I've got a boot jingle. I was most confused at first and thought it was a ghostly haunting by a windows xp machine, thrown in the ewaste with an unresolved bsod, but actually it's the chirpy Chinese bt module starting up.

@homeassistant @LineageOS sad trombone: amazon patched them. the value of amazon ewaste just plummeted for reuse (mine are ok, already flashed).

Worst part to them stopping doing that is one ofy weird special interests has done crossover with ewaste. Weird old computers(not your normal desktop kind), built up a bit of a collection in those years

Do you have an old laptop or desktop sitting in a drawer or closet that you haven't gotten around to figuring out how to send to ewaste processing? Put Linux on it. It's easy, there's no risk, and also no downside. Try it out, it can't hurt you, and you might actually like it, because it's great.
History has proven that Windows will never get better. Once you accept that, the practical and ethical need for alternatives becomes crystal clear. It is not an easy ask, but a just future cannot involve Windows. aftermath.site/we-must-kill-w...

Back in the early 2000s our local dump had this shop with scavenged stuff, and they'd even take stuff that now would be ewaste. Got a couple laser printers with some toner that way

Not an option anymore 😭

Thankfully there have been enough video games and websites invented to keep me entertained already so my 16 gigs of ram will be enough forever. It is time to go Tech Rat Mode and start installing snes emulators in ewaste fridges and cash registers
